  • Wasn't Gold Crown Flowers was it? I posted a Vent about them last year.

I ordered a bouquet of dozen mixed roses from their website to deliver to en elderly relative who lives some distance from me. I chose roses as they have a special significance for her. She rang to thank me for the carnations. I contacted Gold Crown who demanded photographic evidence before offering any compensation or explanation. I explained that the recipient didn't even possess a camera let alone the means to send me (or them) a photo and besides I didn't want her to be disturbed, it was my complaint. They told me there was nothing they could do without a photo, and offered to send another bouquet. Eventually - after much to-ing and fro-ing - I told them where to shove it was have been telling everyone I know not to use them. I also reported them to the florist trade federation (cant remember the name of the organisation) for good measure but never heard anything back from them.

thank you for the advice, the company involved was eflorist.co.uk. I'd never use them again

I'm willing to bet that eflorist, Gold Crown etc are all one and the same rotten apple. Ever since my crappy experience I've stuck to well-known companies (M&S, Next, etc)

  • If you're not going to use them I suspect they realise this and are playing hardball...why give more than half if you have to?

Ask eflorist which shop they used to execute your order and complain to then directly just to let them know they can't keep ripping people off with relay orders, maybe the name was on the card?
Also, tell eflorist that they have got 14 to refund you in full or you will see fit to review the service you recieved from them in a truthful and straight forward manner on various review sites - they don't like that. Tell them you will put a picture of what you ordered and what you got on there too.
The problem is that the fees for members of this relay are quite high so the members have to make reductions on content to make it pay, please everyone, go on google and find a local florist for your orders :)

Why does sending someone flowers have to be such a problem?

It seems to be hit and miss.

I posted on another thread about Interflora recently and the roses that my daughter's new boyfriend sent her, £50 and what a rip off.- they also only lasted 3 days.

I emailed about them and said it had put me off from ordering from them, I just got a standard reply asking for the order number etc. and saying they could only deal with the person who made the order. As if my daughter was going to complain to him about them!!!!

I think that is what they rely on.

It is - they realise that the recipient will be reluctant to complain about the flowers they have recieved to the person who sent them, and the sender is the one with the contract so its win win for them. The few that do complain, most of them are fobbed off and don't pursue it further, and the minority who do have the energy to pursue it get a refund :) Don't let them get away with it because thats what they depend on -they need to learn that if they send out shod, they lose out.
  • Please be aware their are companies on line called Order gatherers.
They are NOT flowers shops. They just have a room filled with people who take your order and a service fee, then forward the order to a shop in the town you want it delivered to LESS The service fee. so the 50 you thought you paid for flowers may be 20 service and 30 for the flowers.(I am guessing at the break down) They do NOT give a darn what the price of flowers are in that town and just send the order to read "fill to value". so the shop getting the order does not know you were promised 5 roses for your 50 .. or that you paid 50 because they got a different amount.

To avoid this please look up the shop in the town you want to send flowers to directly. check they have a local phone number, that they are store. That they are really IN THAT TOWN> then use them.. Shop directly with a local florist so you can get the best value! and if you call the shop directly they can tell you the right prices and what is fresh in that day!

eflorist currently charge £65 a month for membership, which means they are eligable to recieve orders, and I am unsure what the commission rate that eflorist takes is. If you are generous and base it on 25%, then the florist has to take enough orders to pay their membership fee, plus allow for the commission ?25%? and then make their profit AND provide your flowers. If you go directly to the florist they only need to make their profit, so it makes sense all around to cut out the middleman and recieve more for your money, instead of paying the relay company a chunk of it.
Think of it another way, if you wanted a bouquet and you had £50 to spend, and I said that I would ring the florist for you but you need to pay me £12.50 you would tell me to pop off right? Same difference :)

Quite frankly their commission/service charge is of no relevance. When you order goods, irrespective of how you service orders you should receive what you order and the selling retailer will usually be responsible for any failings of their sub contractors.

Personally I'd accept the 50% and move on, despite it not being as large as hoped - it sounds like a fair sized bunch which hopefully the recipient was pleased with...
