It may of course be simply that like a lot of blokes, talking about feelings is difficult anyway and doing it in the presence of a stranger is nigh on impossible ESPECIALLY if he knows in his heart that his behaviour has not been .. shall we say" always as it might have been". Guys are pretty touchy about being picked up on their behaviour. I think maybe it comes from society and upbringing because they are often led to believe they must be strong and powerful and "right" so "talking about things" with the image it often has of being a "female " thing goes against the grain. If your hubby wasn't comfortable with that counsellor you are quite within your rights to ask for someone else. A good counsellor shouldn't be leaving it up to you to figure out a good way forward. That's what you're paying for!!Also, have you thought about him seeing the counsellor on HIS own? Would give him a chance to be "heard" without being on guard as to how you might be interpreting things? Relate will do this for each of you and then bring you back together for joint counselling if there seems to be any point in doing so. I'm sorry to say but you may need to face up to the fact he simply is not motivated to sort things out. YOU need to decide what you want and take it from there. Best of luck.
ps. The money IS needed to run the service as NO money is given by Government. Often local councils help especially with rent etc.
