Homemade castle not good enough for Christmas??

It's not a hand made castle it's a hand crafted castle, crafted with love. What a lovely mum you are.
Also as a help do you use your local Scrap Magic store, I know there is one in Bradford. You can buy recycled/donated craft materials. Perhaps you pick up some bits and bobs there to use with him after christmas to develop the castle more, an extension. Lol lolNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -

Quite possibly it could turn into a family 'heirloom' and last much longer than some plastic thing which always seem to break.
You go for it.
My dad made me a rocking horse when I was little. Then when I outgrew it my brother played with it. Then, after Dad did it up because it was a bit battered by then, we gave it to my cousins.
I might ask him to make me a castle now :rotfl:0 -
Sounds like your mum know's the cost of everything & the value of nothing.Booo!!!0

My dad made several wooden toys for my brother and me when we were young. He knew what we were interested in and made something suitable.
As I grew older I was allowed to watch him make things for my younger brother. I still remember him explaining what he was doing as he made a wooden tunnel for a railway set - I thought he was so clever.
When another brother came along the toys were passed down. Many of these have survived 6 grandchildren and still have life in them.

I really do hope you've started to build (create/design) the castle by now. As you can tell by all the positive replies on here it is definitely going to be a winner "made with love"
What is your Mum thinking and how did she manage to raise such a thoughtful, gifted daughter?
I will be popping back in for updates and photos ooh yes we'd love to see photos of how you are going on with this very precious project:)
Hi Sethsgran Ha I was just thinking that looks like the link Sethsgran used and there you are:) It's a small world. How did your princess tin turn out?The secret of Christmas
It's not the things you do at Christmastime
But the Christmas things you do

I think that a castle sounds wonderful. The other thing to look out for is bundles of knights etc on Ebay and at the car boot as it is the "things" that go with the castle etc that get played with. The year I bought my house I was broke and made dressing up clothes for my nieces and nephew at the end of Boxing Day we asked my nephew what his favourite thing from Father Christmas was, the answer was his pirate costume! I made it for less than a £5 and he wore it until it was rags. It isn't whether something is home made or not it is whether it is a specially wanted thing.0

Would she be offended if she got a Picasso? A Michelangelo? A Da Vinci? Probably not but hey guess what? Even Da Vinci's "toys" are worth small fortunes so tell her to stick that in her pipe and smoke it - as I keep saying to people "YOU CAN'T BUY LOVE! And if you can then it's not a love worth having!"
Hand made shows you have put all your love and thought into it and proven that you care more than buying something mass produced that 50000 other people have gotten too.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I'm not "crafty",but am a dab-hand with Lego. The past two Christmasses, Father Christmas has spent an extra few minutes in our house playing with our boys' Lego and making something for them. Two years ago, it was a Thunderbirds craft that was never sold as a toy (so not something we could even pick up on eBay), and last year was a Millennium Falcon, complete with smuggling-bays for hiding in, a hinged entry-ramp and chess-board. The latter has been much played with, but is held in such high regard that they still haven't destroyed it!
The excitement that FC stopped to play with their toys is a gift in itself! It helps mop- up the infuriating sea of unattached Lego bricks that accumulates in our living-room, too!0 -
My 3 boys inherited the family castle and loved it (that's a funny thing to write!). It was made by an uncle and played with by his children (husbands cousins) and then passed to my husband and his brother and sister, then went to some other relatives and came to us - 4th hand by then I think.
I was only simple ply wood sides with 4 towers,a drawbridge and a narrow ledge just inside the crenelation at the top for the soliders or knights to stand on, and it was covered with that dolls house stone-effect paper, but they loved it for it's simplicity.
It was also designed specifically to be low and wide to fit under a standard single bed - a fantastic idea in itself! I bet none of the plastic monstrosities that you get these days will do that.
It has now passed to another cousin's children after some minor repairs, so it's life goes on and the story of it travels with it. It was never created to be an heirloom, but that is what it has become.
Please do go for it, but do us all a favour here and POST PHOTOS!0
