Organic food in supermarkets

Yep I never will understand rushing here, there and everywhere in a car to get bargains, fuel is so expensive. I stick fairly rigidly (except for a small G&B white choc today) to a list and don't buy multiple items usually so I'd never save enough per item to justify paying to go shopping. Even with a delivery charge Ocado is worthwhile vs petrol as I only use free or 2.99 slots. The organic co's seem really good value given the low order amounts - they just need to deliver eves/weekends!
Today I had my fares paid hence nipped in Waitrose while it was a 'free' trip.. Desperate for water but may get from milkman if I don't do an Ocado order.
Have got most of my fave items added as price alerts now.
In London there are two main organisers of farmer's markets which list them all - organic stuff varies market to market, some markets have a lot more, they seem better in better areas just because they get a lot more trade.0 -
We don't have a farmers' market here
I'd have to take a very winding rural bus route once a month. Might do it once to be nosey in the summer, especially if I can find a fete on as well or a boot fair.
Evian is always 10% off with a Smart Pass at Ocado. Shorters Club has various sizes on offer at the moment, some up to 38% off but there's a $40 minimum order. 24 Evian 50cl bottles are 6.72 ATM whereas on special offer normally 2 x 6 50cl would be $4 so 24 would be $8. www.shortersclub.co.uk
I bought really nice Frobisher's additive free not from concentrate squeezed juices for OH (12 x 250ml for 10.15) and additive free pitta bread and some other stuff.0 -

It's worth going for a look around, tbh I like local foods as much as organic and also you get some of the same stuff I've seen online ie Greens of Glastonbury cheese was at Balham Market iirc and High Weald Dairy was at Lewes Market iirc.
Also there are garden centres and farms that hold their own markets here as well as the town centre ones.
I went in M&S this morning, got some of the org OJ so will taste it back to back with the Grove, will upload a pic later. It is more expensive. Did buy some non org lunch items as got so many appts this week I felt like an easy meal - plus M&S wholemeal pittas toasted and Morrocan houmous are so good! Both additive free.0 -
Frustrating day here..24 days after the warranty ended on my Vaio, it told me I needed a new battery. Shut down, ordered a new one which arrived today.
Plonked in, nothing happened. Looked up prob online. Took battery out, pressed power button, connected power cord, put battery back and it worked.. got to home screen and then pff ! Went off and now dodo like
Riverford order for Friday
1 small fruit bag 3.75
2 lemons 95p
1 cucumber 1.75
1 Flour Power City Bakery ciabatta 1.75
2 Riverford ham & leek tarts @ 2.95
1 Riverford hummus 200g 1.75
Got an email from Riverford today saying as my 4th orderI will get free ring binder for the recipes they give with orders every week
Looking fwd to M&S pic because then I will know what I'm hunting for there !0 -
Sounds expensive, what now, for it? Was looking forward to you getting your £ sign back
I was thinking of Ocado but don't need enough yet to justify an order so got the water coming from the milkman instead with some non org jaffa cake misshapes... and will order veg from Riverford, not sure which box to go for yet but I need mainly salad and thought the small fruit bag looked better this week. It's so tempting to over order on there though...

Someone in OH's IT dept is bringing in a spare Sony charger for me to try to see whether it's that the battery isn't getting charged. Out of ideas after that !
Actually $ looks quite normal to me:D I've lost my Canadian accent unless er bit drunk
Thanks for the photo now I now exactly what I'm looking for, but they didn't have any in M&S I was in
Riverford doesn't have the range of veg that Abel & Cole but there are some prices which actually are a lot better.
www.tesco.com I am looking at unlogged in is showing loads of stuff from Graig Organics which you have to order 2 days in advance. Everything from bangers to joints. All seems expensive though ! Whether that's country wide dunno.
Also showing Soil and Seed veg boxes which need 1 day notice before you want them. They were just London, no idea if now country wide. Have a look and see if you think they are good value for money..
Jaffa cakes @ You're as bad as me I had first pasta of 2013 last night eek.
Riverford price on High Weald Dairy Halloumi is $1 cheaper than Budgens.0 -
Hi again peeps
Just stumbled upon this very interesting article regarding an ingredient that in America is allowed in organic foodstuffs. I have seen it here also in conventional foods such as low fat Philadelphia soft cheese, but I'm not sure if it is allowed in organic foods under EU rules. The site itself appears, at first sight, to be worth perusing.

I don't like statements like this, designed to push your emotional buttons but with qualifiers
"Another problem is that research available since the early 1980′s indicated that even food grade carrageenan is probably converted during the digestive process to the degraded, highly toxic form .... It still could be extremely damaging to your health!"
The author?
"I am a 40-something, Wife and Mother of three. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (summa !!! laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Furman University and a Master of Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution.
After earning my post graduate degree, I worked for over 10 years in the field of Information Technology designing Financial Systems first with the global consultancy Accenture and then as an Assistant Vice President with the brokerage firm Raymond James Financial.
In 1997, I left my blossoming and fast track career to become a Mom. Yes, a MOM – the most important title I will ever hold.
In order to be the BEST Mom I could be (never perfect), I delved deeply into all aspects of nutrition in order to birth and raise healthy children with no learning disabilities, allergies or other issues that are so prevalent in our young ones today."
The whole website is wall to wall advertisements, if I wanted to know more about that ingredient I'd go to the World Health Organisation or the studies that are alluded to yet never referenced. Sorry to be blunt but at first sight this looks exactly like the sort of pseodo-science I'd avoid like the plague.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I hope you are right
. I don't consume much processed food anyway, organic or otherwise. However I've just seen that wikipedia does mention concerns on the part of scientists and some doctors. May be nothing, of course.
