Organic food in supermarkets

I've been to the market again today, with mixed success. The fishmonger was p1ss poor so decamped to Morrisons (!) but saw rabbit at one butchers counter, another gave me a leaflet about his local meat from https://www.threedales.co.uk. I bought some baby cow liver and pork tenderloin both under £5 a kilo from the local guy.
Not organic, sorry, that is not in my budget and I don't think much exists here outside the supermarkets anyway.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I went in Waitrose today for a couple of bits - picked up cucumber and put it back as from Israel (they are available from Spain at the moment so will go elsewhere) most of the Tideford sauce only had date of 20/2 and they only had 2 of the range in stock.. got 1 longer date but had much longer dates on from Ocado. Wanted the Lye Cross mini cheeses I got on Ocado but didn't have them (sure it said on MySupermarket they did) so I got Lil Moos cheeses instead... as I wanted individual portions - they are made by Dairy Crest - yet are not sold on Milk & More.0

blueyellowred it sounds like you are describing Première Pression Provence olive oil, if so then all variants I have tried so far have been very nice & are definitely a bargain at 80p a tin.0

Wow that's quite a bargain then blueyellowred :T thanks to frugal_shopper for the name, will alert my mother to that
Fire Fox and kirri you both sound like you had a bad day :grouphug:< this is a group hug supposedly
I found schlepping round supermarkets depressing because I couldn't find much organic food and mostly there's no natural light and the colours are either garishly enthusiastic or grungy.
Unless I go for specific offers/products eg the Rachel's yogurts at Lidl or Borges oil at Morrisons I try to avoid them.
It's my mother who likes dragging me in them.
Abel & Cole order today so now have eggs and milk. Got OH a Long Crichel pain d'Auvergne for the freezer.
If you have a Tesco Clubcard, please check your account as lots of people are reporting thefts of Tesco ClubCard vouchers.0 -
Thank you ^
it's just SO much easier to get it all from Ocado though saying that the Waitrose I was in today wasn't one of the larger ones.

When I started this thread I never expected it to get to more than 40 pages long or to get more than 22,000 views. So I didn't make my first post a Where To Start Guide.
That means every now and then, a post like this.
You don't have to be an organitarian (yup it's a word according to the Urban Dictionary and means a person who eats only organic food).
You might have seen organic food in Home Bargains and are kind enough to let us know - Quasar even found organic food in Costcutter. Or if you've bought yellow-stickered organic food, we'd love to know what you thought, good or bad.
Some people choose organic fruit and vegetables when they can, because they are worried about pesticides and prioritise thin skinned delicate fruit and veg which don't get peeled, to eat organic. If you do a search on the thread there are videos which explain all that...and you can always ask questions, we don't bite
As the thread progresses, you'll find the organic, wild and additive free offers I've found be they from Lidl, Approved Food, Abel & Cole, ASDA, Waitrose, One Stop, Poundland, Sainsbury's, Tesco, 99p Stores, Co-op, Morrisons, Riverford, Ocado or Costcutter. People add others they see in between these.
In Germany and USA Aldi does organic ranges. In the USA, Walmart, Target and Safeway for example all have organic ranges. In France, they even have organic supermarkets. Finding organic food in the UK can be difficult but this thread aims to track it down and review0 -
Thank you ^

Tis true but I'd rather pay 75p for tinned organic tomatoes in ASDA occasionally than 89p a tin from Ocado/Waitrose. Waitrose price for OH's organic Weetabix is 3.09, 2.79 in Sainsbury's and 2.48 in ASDA. Surprisingly though ASDA sells Heinz organic cream of tomato soup for OH at 1.15 compared to 96p at Ocado.
When I first went organic I had to hit Lidl, ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Waitrose sometimes to get a decent amount of food. Shopping with my mother can be stressful.
Organisation is the key thing for me. Having my Ocado order on hand so I can compare prices on the hoof. doing some prep on offers before I get there too.0 -
Just been doing prep on my Ocado order as per the above ^ as much as I need to save £ it would currently mean chasing round a variety of shops to get all the things cheaper and typically there are a few things cheaper in Waitrose that I forget to check today  and then apart from Morrisons/Asda that I can walk to, the others will cost me to get to.0
-
Kirri, you are right you smart cookie you, ,if it costs you more to get to the supermarket in fares/fuel, you aren't saving money even if the deals are cheaper - unless you save enough to cover the cost of the fuel/fares. Loads of people on MSE never seem to get that.
For me, only Tesco and Waitrose are a bus ride away so I would go there with my mother in her car to say clear Tesco out of $2 olive oil on offer or Moo organic milk on offer or get yellow stickered cheese at Waitrose. The rest I can walk to, but they have very little organic although Sainsbury's and Lidl improving.
Abel & Cole delivery costs 99p per week but I save 11p on YV yogurt. so 88p. Riverford free delivery. Ocado effectively free because having a Smart Pass means saving 6.99 per week for me on delivery. 6.99 x 52 weeks = 363.48 Even full price pass 109,99 deducted from 363.48 = 253.49 saved so more than pass costs and I got discount on full price.
I think I can live with 88p per week delivery
It does take awhile to work out a system and I must admit I haven't fine tuned mine to pick up price alerts on mysupermarket yet.
At first I was really panicked running round Lidl, Morrisons, ASDA and Sainsbury's in an afternoon and exhausting myself.
So anyone lurking thinking of buying more organic food and finding that difficult do check to see whether these deliver
