    Hi,

If you have home bargains nearby may be worth going in as I picked up 5 bags of crazy jack organic green lentils for 69p each (long dated till 2014 at least) :)

Ditto - plus red lentils and soup mix as well.

Hi ana8 welcome to the thread and thanks for the tip :T Sure lots of people will find that useful.

Just done my second Riverford order - cool bag for OH to lug his food to work in eg Riverford small fruit bag, Chutney Piccalilli and 2 x Riverford ham and leek pies (scrumptious). Also ordered him a Flour Power City pain de campagne and a single chocolate brownie for the weekend, a litre of milk, some houmous (nice n garlicky), High Weald Halloumi cheese, an aubergine, mushrooms and a fennel bulb.
  • Whilst going through offers on ocado last night found this offer for 3 colour scooby doo pasta.
intro offer 500g for 89p. I know Asda have some organic pasta for 50p but don't have an Asda nearby. Offers in other supermarkets all seem to be £1 or more.
Looking forward to Scooby Doo Bolognese. Just me and oh here, why should kids have all the fun.:D

I'm still miffed by not finding organic apples as easily as I used to in Morrisons. However yesterday they had packs of 5 large apples at £2. Sainsbury had packs of 4, average size, at £1.80, so guess where I bought 2 packs?

    I'm guessing not Sainsbury's ?

On Friday I bought some organic Fairtrade bananas from ASDA just because they were cute - not very MSE of me :o

Tried the Lofbergs Lila Harmoni organic ground coffee yesterday and mmm it's good. Mellow, rich, smooth and not at all bitter or overstrong. Think I'm really lucky to find it. Granted 6.20 for 250g but whereas 1 heaped tsp instant only does 1 mug, 1 heaped tsp ground does me a 2 cup cafetiere.

Edited to add - forgot the website www.totallyswedish.com

I do not buy organic bananas, nor citrus, pineapple etc. ie what needs to be peeled, as the pesticides do not penetrate these relatively thick skins. Anything else has to be organic or I go without.

From a purely ecological point of view it would be preferable to buy absolutely everything organic, but with finite financial means one is forced to reach some compromise. :o

Do they really not 'penetrate' to the fruit? What about systemic herbicides? Also what about the people growing and picking the fruit who have to spray them and/or will be exposed to the stuff?

But as you say, there are always financial restraints to be considered.

Buying organic isn't just about avoiding exposure to pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, it's about avoiding synthetic fertilisers and human sewage used as fertiliser.

    (Apologies to anyone eating)

We all have our own priorities and OH and I put roof over head, good food on the table and laptop each ahead of designer clothes, TV, pubbing, clubbing, vacations and other stuff.

For everyday cooking I'm quite happy to use Aberdeen Angus dripping or organic ghee or organic supermarket EV olive oil whereas maybe that would have you going  Quasar.

But whereas I can taste the difference between the farm milk I get from Abel & Cole and the organic milk from supermarkets in tea, I have to say that when cooking with olive oil I couldn't taste whether it's EV or not let alone the quality. I might fare better if it was on salad though.

That I agree with. I buy all of them organic (I don't use ghee anyway), as I do buy organic tofu and soy milk (I do drink organic cow's milk too). But as I said one has to reach a financial compromise, and I forego the organic choice for those foods whose edible part is more shielded from contaminants. The taste is not always different, however, depending on the specific item.

Pubbing, clubbing, designer clothes are not part of my lifestyle either, but I still have to reach a small compromise of food costs.
