miss_emmajane, good luck trying to be organic as a student, its already so expensive.

Bought some Crazy Jack organic raisins today. 375g grams for £1.99 (I know Morrisons and Tesco sell them). They are very good raisins. Edwardia that 1.2% figure is really low, no surprise organic is so expensive.

Thank you, luckily this is my second degree and OH has done his so we have his wages to live on and I just do the food shopping. Although on my bursary that is still a challenge when funding my car and parking when on placement which I am currently :o

I am hoping the changes I can make now will set a good base for when we have two 'proper' incomes, plus it is making me learn about what I am eating which is a plus side! I have just realised that all of our tea and hot chocolate are organic - they are Clipper which is my favourite tea 'brand' :T

its very interesting to read and learn/research about the ingredients, thats what made me really realise the amount of rubbish in some food. Not to forgot the pesticides that are used in non organic farming that are not listed on the ingredients list, and I always try to warn people when I see them eating non washed fruit or veg because its probably covered in nasty pesticides

  • For anyone in the North West area especially Lancashire and Southport there is an organic farm offering local veg boxes, they also have other produce in their farm shop.

Only buy meat from ocado, sainsbobs, waitrose and able and cole and it all has to be organic. I decided this after finding ingredients listed on what I thought was just meat but this is shocking :eek::eek:

Snap rufydoofyM we bought what we thought were plain pork loin steaks and 100% pork in March 2012 from Tesco and they weren't and that's why we went organic.

Organic meat, poultry, dairy, eggs, fruit, veg, tea, breakfast cereals.. everything I can find really.....plus wild fish, seafood and game.

    Meat
Laverstoke Park Farm from Ocado, Abel & Cole
Duchy Originals from Waitrose from Ocado, Waitrose
    Sainsbury's SO organic

    Poultry
    Daylesford Organic from Ocado
  • I struggle to afford enough organic meat but as a former vegetarian I just eat vegetarian dishes to fill in the gaps etc rather than buy value meat from poor supermarkets. I would rather do that than touch that meat.

I think quite a few people will be rethinking how and where they buy meat now.

So if you're lurking and have questions about organic food, particularly meat then do ask cos we are friendly :)

"Horsemeat in Europe cannot be said to be safe as much of the horsemeat actually comes from racehorses in the U.S. where the horses are subjected to high levels of drug treatments, both legal and not. Recently EU officials warned that this transatlantic trade in horsemeat may be stopped. The link below is a NY Times article on the subject."

Yesterday The Grocer reported that the EC is launching a EU-wide consultation to see whether GM should be allowed in organic food :eek:

I'm looking for a link to the EC consultaion atm

Why do <insert expletive> politicians think they have the right to mess with out food and then say oops sorry when things like BSE happen grrrr

I've spoken to Soil Association, done the questionnaire, will be putting it all up on my blog
