  • We have a breadmaker too. It's been sadly neglected recently, but we dusted it off yesterday and woke up to some lovely bread this morning. As OH has IBS, we have to alternate between and wholemeal loaf one morning for me and a white loaf the next day which he can eat. Having said that, I struggle with getting my loaves right. I find it tricky to find the balance between 'incredibly heavy' and 'so light it's light eating air'; I did manage to perfect it, but never wrote down the exact quantities I used so will have to experiment a bit again.

Talking of cheeses, has anyone tried this one? We've bought it a few times, and at first I didn't think I liked it... but wow - the after taste is incredible, and I don't think I've ever tasted cheese like it. Absolutely gorgeous! http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/greens-vintage-cheddar-325g-avg

I've ha a quick look on the cheesemaker's website, and they don't sell that one directly though... But you can have a 26kg wheel of Organic Double Gloucester for £156 :Dhttp://www.greensofglastonbury.co.uk/index_CheeseShop.htm

Bit difficult to dig up their garden then...! maybe try some stuff in pots then you can take it if you move. I'm only in a flat so have an allotment but really saves money. I want hens too..

I will wait until I have my own place another 2-3 years hopefully.

Bacheldre Watermill flour is worth trying they have quite a wide range of organic flour in addition to their conventional flour which they sell via Amazon all with free shipping, Amazon also sells Marriage's flour amongst other brands.

For yeast I tend to use either Fermipan dried yeast or I use fresh which I get from a local bakery for 99p per kg (I have to ask in advance & they add an extra block to their next order).

Costco sell Marriages flour as I have bought it for my sister. That was the Lakeside store so if you are a member might be worth checking. I can't remember the price but I think it was sold in 6 x 1.5 kg packs and they did plain and self raising.

Thanks, we tried the lye cross mature cheddar and red leicester over xmas from ocado. Both were really nice but especially the red leicester. I love pretty much all cheese but oh only likes cheddar, red leicester and gloucester, cheshire, lancashire and wensleydale. When we next visit fil I'll try and get to a cheese shop and get some local lancashire.
Checked out the links but all too expensive or the wrong cheese unfortunately but never mind, will carry on hunting.

www.pongcheese.co.uk has an organic cheese section

Good cheese is expensive, even if it's not organic. The only thing I can suggest is to buy cheese on offer and buy YS and freeze it, which is what I do for everyday stuff.

Hi peeps, and happy new year!

Now that the festive hulabaloo has ebbed away, I need to re-stock on extra virgin olive oil (the only oil I use in my kitchen), and can only buy trusted brands in good health food stores. I wish at least the better end supermarkets sold quality brands, but zilch. When I was home in Italy for Christmas we discussed this with my mum but the brands she uses are not available in the UK - too expensive to make them worth stocking, I suppose.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
