I had Abel & Cole delivery on Christmas Eve..opened the front door and the stack of boxes was taller than me and yeah.. it was like.. er Christmas :D

I just got delivery by UPS of Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and Disease by Dr Robert H Lustig MD from Amazon US, published last Thursday or Friday in the USA.

    I'll be quiet for a while :D
  • Hello all. This is a great thread. I can see I am amongst kindred spirits. I have for a long time been meaning to say bye bye to the supermarket chances and start buying my meat from organic folks such as Abel and Cole and Daylesford. I thought this would be unaffordable. But reading the posts on this thread has given me the confidence and motivation to get n with it. Thanks Guys!

Kirri have you tried this ?

Spotted on hollandandbarrett.com - Granovita organic tofu, pepper and tomato pate, 125g resealable tin 1.59. Vegan, dairy free, gluten free and organic. It's also low carb at 3g carbs per 100g.

No, never tried that but think I read some good reviews on Amazon?? I probably should try it but tend to have bean type spreads more than tofu spreads.

Hello to all the new posters :D

I'm taking a break from Dr Lustig's book to drink coffee and eat 90% cocoa chocolate and pistachios  Got my music on shuffle and just had Debussy followed by Bing Crosby White Christmas :D

RunRabbit welcome to the thread ! My New Year resolution is to try mor non-supermarket sources for organic food and I'm hoping to do at least one a month eg Planet Organic, Ecotopia, Realfoods, Whole Foods Market, Back to Nature, Willowbrook Farm, Laverstoke Park Farm, Green Pea Wholefoods etc

Kirri I can't eat beans, cos they're too carby for me. :( At least I can eat verry dark chocolate ! :D
  • Well I'm feeling a bit cheesed off with myself today as I forgot to stock up on tinned toms etc at Sainsburys last friday and can't get out today. It's not been a good day. I was looking forward to my Ocado delivery today and have been dissappointed. The organic leg of lamb didn't arrive (wasn't charged) and we were to have it tomorrow along with all the nice veg I also ordered. The calon wen semi skimmed milk was substituted with Rachaels but sent it back as we only use un homogenised, the green grapes are horribly sour, the lge bag of peanuts is bb 13 jan and I had got them thinking they would last longer, finally the belgium choccy pud was substituted with a small heston pud and we were having that tommow too. So I'm now feeling let down. We have food in so won't go hungry but all my plans have been messed up and now I'm trying to think of what to do. Can't get out and feel ill which doesn't help. Will call ocado shortly now I am calmer and see what they say. Ironic since I was singing their praises earlier. Have fruit veg and eggs coming tomorrow from A & C but of course it's to late to add milk meat or anything.
Sorry about the moan, will update later

rufydoofyM I do feel you've been very unlucky there, but I noticed myself that organic stock levels have been practically non-existent for eggs, chicken and meat that I wanted over the weekend, not just at Ocado but in-store at Sainsbury's and ASDA too.

I would call or email Ocado on 2nd and express extreme disappointment rather than rant - I very rarely get subs and I've been ordering every week since August.

I would hazard a guess that it was a supplier problem (maybe from some key farms or a distributor ?) and that if you complain it gives them more impetus to get it sorted.

I can never open the order confirmation attachment on my BlackBerry though it is a rim file and had a whinge. Not only did the customer services guy escalate it, I got a call a few days later to say that they were in touch with RIM (BlackBerry) and then an email to say they are working to resolve the problem with RIM. Above and beyond or what ?

I hope stock levels improve before Saturday or else I'll be moaning too, especially if I have to go without my favourit bacon

Oh and I would have checked with Abel & Cole to see if they could add anything. the website has the deadline times and days for different products.

I have email and text reminders set up with Ocado and Abel & Cole and OH knows if he misses them he does without !

Thanks for the stuff on GM.. Waitrose told me that NONE of their own range products involved GM at all, feed included. I will be tackling them about that again, because I've yet to find organic veal mince anywhere and the Waitrose veal mince is mmm.

If that's fed GM feed then I guess I'll have to either buy buffalo mince from Laverstoke Park Farm or venison mince from Abel & Cole.

It should surely be easier to buy non frankenfood <sigh>

thanks to tessie bear who told me that Home Bargains sometimes has organic tinned tomatoes, stock cubes and rice and it may be worth popping in if you live near one https://www.homebargains.co.uk
  • RE: Supermarkets running out of/low on organic food... I noticed a couple of days before Christmas that the organic bacon in Tesco had all gone. My first thought was that they're low on stock because people who don't normally buy organic did so simply as it's Christmas? I know my mum does, whereas I can't pursuade her to try at other times of the year :)

Edwardia, I am googling all those shops like crazy now...! :D

If you know how to do a search, if you do one on this thread I think most of the websites would come up - certainly there are a few farms too.

Re: the bacon, that never occurred to me, but it makes sense. ;)
