Organic food in supermarkets

My neighbour is chinese, they have seen cancer rates, obesity and other negative health changes from going GMO. So in their community, they started to grow organic veg in their gardens and when I pop over there, they often give me veggies. It really lovely to know the food has been grown properly without any chemicals. The strange thing is that the veggies do grow big without the chemicals. And there are so many clever tricks to keep away pest. It also keeps the cost of food down too, as it is inflation proof. I will be starting this year, as I have a baby to provide for. And I want to make sure the baby doesnt grow up with IBS / skin conditions / allegies etc... which is associated with GMO food or chemically porduced food.0

I saw a recall notice in sainsburys today for their sultanas. I buy these as my children like to add them to their porridge, but am unsure whether I would in future as I can't understand how salmonella could end up in a pack of organic sultanas! I can understand if it was a meat product but something surely must be very wrong with hygiene or cross contamination to end up in sultanas. I'll try and get some more information from them tomorrow. http://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/prod-notice-sultanas
Anyone know if this is possible under the normal production of sultanas?0 -

Thanks for posting, that's a bit of a surprise! Please post up if you manage to get an explanation.
I bought sultanas in the last week but got Crazy Jack ones. Wonder where Sainsbury's ones are packaged?0 -
Saw organic spring onions in Morrisons this morning, think they were £1, but they were from Egypt! Not a shop I'd bother going to if you want organic items though as it's a fairly sparse collection overall.
New organic almond milk product, looks nice but not many stockists yet, looks like very new company - Daylesford are stocking it or can get it from the Sat market near Waterloo. Will try and get some to try if I go anywhere near where it's being sold.

Where is everyone??0 -
Popped into the Daylesford shop near Kingham today - some eye watering prices but came away with eggs, smoothies, a gooey flapjack which Dd pronounced 'lush' but resisted the fruit bread (as stocked by Ocado) as we had already bought an organic g-stone loaf from Hobbs Hoiuse earlier in the day - that too is lush:rotfl:
Have been trying to stay away from Wholefoods as we go in for one item and come out with half a dozen (or more) but couldn't resist a couple of boxes of breadsticks this week.0 -
^ I do the same in WF, it's probably cheap though compared to Daylesford, not sure I have the budget to visit there at the moment!
Which brand of breadsticks do you get? I was going to try the Organico ones I think it is from Ocado, on offer at the mo. Don't usually buy them but just fancied some for a change.0 -

Inflation proof elaborate on that, organic=decreased yield, + more mechanized + higher labour + more fuel, Its an equation that someone with 40 years of experience in agriculture is struggling with.0 -
Kirri, we like WF own brand, especially the rosemary ones, though the other varieties are good too. They are vegan as well
£1.19 a box but occasionally on offer so we stock up then.

In the UK it would be to drink tap water (massively more regulated than its bottled counterpart, and to use UK produced food (again far more regulated than its organic equivalent).0
