Have you ever had the Provamel soya chocolate mousse ? I was thinking of getting a pack to shove in fridge for my mother.
I've not had the Provamel org soya choc one but I think I read somewhere that the Alpro soya non org was from the same manufacturers? They just have different brand names for different markets/shops?? (that one is nice albeit non org..) I had another of the Provamel caramel ones today - it reminds me of tropical sun cream.. with an aftertaste of caramel. They also do a cappuccino version, not had that.
Will have a look at those org gardening book links
Found a caterpillar on the living room floor yesterday, must have accidentally bought it home in the veg even though I try to check things when picking!
Kitchen is a bit overloaded with allotment veg at the moment, had to pick more than I wanted in case I can't get down there over the wet weekend..0 -
Highly recommend the Joy Larkcom organic gardening books - packed with detailed info.0

Hello!!!
Sorry to have been AWOL all week. I have been so busy at work with early starts that I have been too tired to do much in the evening. The hunt for organic bits and pieces is going quite well I picked up two nets of organic onions for 19p each in Waitrose and I am writing dutchy originals milk very much. :j
Oh and despite you all actively encouraging me to but more chocolate.... thanks for that :rotfl:.... my resolve has remained strong:).. first time for everything hey!!!For anyone into GYO, the new 2014 Organic Gardening Catalogue is out, I've just ordered a few seeds (P&P £1.50 up to £12 and speedy delivery last time I used them), will order more in the Spring..

Thanks for this link Kirri. I was thinking about organic seeds so I will have a look through. We don't have much room in the garden but I am sure we can do something...
Also thanks for the cook book links another thing I was after!I am looking forward to Christmas I love Christmas pudding, cake and mince pies. My husband makes the best mince pies ever...:T
If I see anything else around over the weekend then I will let you know!0 -
Morning all, hope you're all having good weekend - sunny here
Hope you're getting some sun too !
Hmm, Kirri I don't think OH would eat anything that smells like tropical suntan lotion lol. He can't stand all those highly scented washing powders etc. On the other hand he does have an addiction to chocolate.0 -

I'm sure the chocolate one will be ok, think it's just the caramel one!
Talking of choc things, I noticed some choc & choc/coconut rice cakes on Ocado I hadn't seen before, Amisa I think it was. Will try next order (as I have the reduced Kallo ones on this order).
As I thought:
Alpro distributes soya based vegetarian/vegan products under the brands Belsoy, Alpro Soya and Provamel. The Provamel brand is reserved exclusively for organic products (including many organic versions of Alpro Soya products), which are intended for sale only by independent health food retailers.
BUT worryingly, just saw this which if all true is fairly horrendous about the parent company, seems to be on a few ethical vegan blogs too.

I put in an Ocado order last night but had a bit of a what is there to eat wobble - in organic vegetarian/vegan options I just keep buying tofu.. apart from all the basics ie veg, grains, pulses etc I could make things with I just fancied a few easy things to eat on busy days but there suddenly seems there is not that much choice.
Have sun here at the moment surprisingly - was going over to Wholefoods this weekend but changed my mind based on the weather and typically today looks quite good now!0 -

Thanks for the heads up on Alpro/Provamel Kirri.
The worrying thing about the passing off of conventional as organic, is the reciprocal agreement between UK and EU on organic food. This means that the US can export organic food here and as long as it meets USDA organic standards it's deemed to be organic for EU purposes. Obviously it's not likely that we would get fresh products but soya stuff, cereals, snacks etc could arrive.
I was a vegetarian for eleven years but I ate eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt as well as beans, grains, pulses and soya and of course lots of veggies ! Veganism does sound quite difficult.
Kirri, you made the point once before that some vegetarian or vegan processed foods contain additives. Recently I've been looking for nutritious snacky things for my husband as an alternative to perpetual rolls or sandwiches. I'm now aware that many of these things are not as nutritious or additive-free as I thought. Before your comment I wouldn't have gone through veggie food labels with thoroughness.
Most people would assume that vegetarian products are for people who care a lot about what they eat, ergo they must be additive free and really healthy, right ? Sadly, not true in all cases.
So here's the blurb about the food values of the McCartney family
http://www.lindamccartneyfoods.co.uk/foodvalues/
Here's the product info on Linda McCartney 6 frozen vegetarian sausages
http://www.lindamccartneyfoods.co.uk/ourfood/sausages/ and you'll see the ingredients aren't mentioned.
And here are the same sausages from the Iceland website and you'll see that the ingredients include hydroxy methyl propyl cellulose. You can draw your own conclusions from there.
