As I know alot of people buy their organic food from Waitrose I thought this would be interesting. It doesn't directly relate to the food itself but more to the company.

Did you know that Waitrose is partnering with one of the most toxic and destructive companies in the world?

Waitrose is starting to open stores at Shell petrol stations across the UK. But a partnership with Shell is a partnership with Arctic destruction. Can you email Waitrose telling them to dump Shell?

What you think matters most to Waitrose. They spend millions on advertising to people just like you. That's why 10,000 emails to Waitrose will have a huge impact. Their public relations staff will be in crisis mode, forcing executives to reflect on the partnership by responding to their customers and the world.
Our director, John, has written to Waitrose three times. But Waitrose have chosen to believe Shell's corporate spin. In their only response to our concerns, a Waitrose spokesperson told us:

'Shell has assured me that they intend to meet US legislation and will operate with respect for the environment.'

An assurance from Shell is not worth the paper it's written on. Shell has already broken US law when just a few months ago their ship, the Arctic Challenger, was found responsible for not one, but four illegal fluid discharges. And we know for a fact that there is no such thing as Arctic drilling 'with respect for the environment'. With fierce storms and huge ice floes, Arctic conditions are treacherous and there is no technology that can clean up the inevitable oil spills in icy waters, home to beautiful species found nowhere else.

In the past, Waitrose have worked with our oceans team to help protect vulnerable fish stocks. That's why it's shocking that they've partnered with one of the most destructive companies in the world. They must choose the environment over Shell. It's time they heard from you.

As the ice melts, Shell is leading the charge for oil in the fragile and pristine Arctic. We must tell Waitrose to dump Shell before it's too late.

Love good food, hate Arctic destruction.

    Nic and the Greenpeace community

I have sent Waitrose an email myself and have noticed http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/ have made it the main feature of their website at present if anyone wants to find out anymore information.

Waitrose is presumably going into partnership with Shell at petrol stations in the same way that Marks and Spencer Simply Food went into partnership with BP.

My uncle once owned a petrol station in Wales when I was a kid. Back then, the garage was his and the petrol supplied by whoever (can't remember) and it was a franchise thing like McDonald's ie the big business doesn't own the property or business it just gets a cut of the profits (they also pay for the privilege of being a franchisee). Riverford Organics has franchisee farms as well btw

Greenpeace is an environmental organisation I admire and I know someone who was involved with it way back when.

However Shell exploration and Shell retail will be completely unrelated. Any decisions made by Waitrose and Shell retail will have nothing to do with exploration.

Greenpeace will know this so it's a bit disingenuous IMO, but that's just my opinion.

That said I DO think that ALL the oil companies should do way more for the environment.

Putting organic into the Argos search engine brings up Organic Naturals curtains and bedding but when I looked at the curtains they are 100% polyester. Er how can polyester be organic :rotfl:

I am looking for an organic gravy mix preferably without wheat flour. Is there such a thing available or am I looking at making my own? I wanted it for speed really.

socalsteam welcome to the thread, hope you find it useful and do feel free to just pitch in there.

bornintoit - Kallo https://www.saykallo.com launched organic gravy granules and organic stock pots in October. The stock pots are available in Tesco and Co-op but I haven't seen them yet. However I have seen the chicken gravy granules in Waitrose and tried them - very good, not salty. The other variety is beef. Both are gluten free so no wheat flour.

Thanks Edwardia for being a star as usual :). They sound just what I'm looking for. Hopefully I'll be able to find them as I don't have a Waitrose near me.
