I'm very much of the mindset that a bargain is a bargain wherever it comes from so I do trawl through the tabloid reader offers. For those growing their own organic food here's an offer on organic fertiliser from the Daily Star.

My runner beans still tiny so ordered 500g from Riverford for 2.75 is that decent price ?

Ordered three courgettes for 1.55, 2 kohl rabi for 1.95 from Riverford and from Abel & Cole 2 globe artichokes 2.99 100g wild samphire 2.29 and a spaghetti squash for 2.09

The small fruit bag from Riverford (3.75) has in my area this week NZ Braeburn apples, French Guyot pears and Italian Sublima white seedless grapes. OH will probably start on that at the weekend, the glutton !

No idea re price of runner beans, though I do find (in supermarkets anyway) they are picked far too large for my liking. The taste changes so rapidly once picked too. Mine aren't ready yet either :( I am overwhelmed with home grown courgettes, potatoes, beetroot, french beans though which is mostly all I am currently eating.

I may order the Riverford fruit bag this week - have nothing growing fruit wise at the moment - only ordering a few salad bits that I don't have ready to pick (for the pets) but getting less each week as more things are growing. Tempted to have more salsa too, but very small order this week (mainly ordering to get my refund used up).

Suggest you nose on the Riverford and Abel & Cole websites for recipes Kirri cos I think they have gluts of courgettes too and may have recipes. My mother always made courgette and cumin soup mmm but she is growing beans this year (less bending down).

Salad wise I'm using herbs from the garden plus the odd bag of what Sainsbury's calls WSR - organic watercress, spinach and rocket which has a bit more bite than lettuce. I had two budgerigars in my twenties (couldn't afford a parrot) (Dante and Verdi) and they would go nutz when given basil, just adored it. How are the pets with herbs and watercress ?

Will do, I have quite a collection of courgette recipes but always need more..

Also using lots of herbs here from the allotment - discovered mint goes very well with puy lentils - and indoors I also have a potted greek basil plant - only 1 of the guinea pigs likes it but he ate quite a bit when he found it the other day, he was biting off stalks from the bottom, I had to curtail it! They also like coriander, parsley (though it's not great for them as high in calcium iirc) and fave for them is dill which I have been getting from A&C as I only have a little growing. They don't eat watercress (can't remember if that is bad for them??). They have such delicate systems in balancing calcium content, all the things they like usually...

I won a Higgidy picnic the other week with lots of vouchers from natural type suppliers as well as a G&B bar - there was a voucher for Higgidy, G'nosh and Steve's leaves in it as well as Popchips and Shaken Udder, Vita Coco, Collective Dairy - don't think any of these are organic but hopefully all are additive free brands - need to do a trip to Waitrose to pick them up, have you tried any of these? (apart from Higgidy which I know).

Watercress might have high calcium content, def has high iron content.

Well done you on the hamper ! :T No I haven't tried any of those, must admit.

At the end of the summer I intend getting my website cranked up reviewing stuff, I have loads of photos to upload. If you and pets want to join in PM me ;)

Hello to Taisie, Grace and of course Camilla at Higgidy, in case they are lurking :D I hasten to add I don't work for Higgidy OH just consumes a lot of them !

Just phoned Sainsbury's Careline to complain. The Sainsbury's SO organic Extra Virgin olive oil 500ml which is filtered and the unfiltered version both used to cost 2.50. They've put the price of unfiltered up to £3.

It's not better olive oil, it's not a bigger bottle and less work goes into it than the 2.50 stuff. I'm refusing to buy the unfiltered now until they put the price down.

    Hello everyone.

I know it's been awhile since I was last on here. I have been on a job centre approved course to try and get me back into work, I am trying to stay positive but the longer I am out of work the less confidence I seem to have.

I hope everyone is fine, I got some reduced organic pork chops from Tesco the other Sunday. For £2.10 normally £5.39. I thought that was good. I am still thinking about getting a veg box and fruit bag from either Riverford or Abel & Cole but haven't done anything about it.

I will posting on here alot more now, like I used to.

The following link is some woman I have never heard of saying she wants a hippie baby so will be dressing them in organic clothes. I hate this assertion that if you want to eat organic food, use organic products etc then you are or must be a hippie.

Never heard of her either, but then I've not seen Warm Bodies.

Welcome back btw :) Hope the JC course wasn't too traumatic (anything to do with them usually is..).

The veg boxes look good at the moment - I have enough growing not to get one but worth getting, nice to look forward to each week too.. and good if you get an offer to start with.

E - yes defo, let us know when you get the website going.

Did Sainsbury's respond? so have they put it up to grab the more 'upmarket' type market you think, more than because of the cost of the product?

Hi there born, have a high five, good to see you back. I have to say I have noo idea who she is but I'll blame Sienna Miller for the organic glamping boho grunge stuff <rolls eyes> ;)

K - will do ! I don't think it's an effort to go upmarket altho they seem to be expanding the range, I just think they are being cheeky and trying to rip us off. Got told I'd get a £3 voucher but no explanation for the 50p price hike yet.
