Along the lines of what I had been eating. Some have sugar, some have fructose, other brands have certain pestos with glucose fructose syrup. I thought it had been around for a few years a least in the UK?

Black & Green Olives (43%), Tomato Puree (38%), Sunflower Seed Oil, Capers, Italian Basil, Onion, Natural Flavourings, Sea Salt, Fructose, Garlic, Acidity Regulator: Lactic Acid; Ground Black Pepper, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Hot Chilli Pepper.

However, if one brand does pestos with no sugar, with sugar and with fructose glucose syrup, how do i trust them not to mislabel products for greater profit?

Thanks for the tips on making my own :)

    I got some

Reflets de France Pistou Provencale Pesto 190g to try
Basil (55%), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt, Garlic, Lemon Concentrate, Sunflower Oil.
I usually only use tomato pesto so will see if I can adjust to the taste.

I tend to go with what tastes good, was surprised how good the pesto was with the nuts.

I've used Ethical Superstore, they are the same as Natural Collection. Can get points with each to use on future orders and there was ages back a way to get free delivery and then cancel. Also loads of regular offers but on the whole it has to be a good offer on both price and delivery to make it cheaper than elsewhere.

Wish my A&C order would hurry up, I cheated and ordered a sourdough from them to try (have only tried Riverford supplied bread so far). Should really have made bread... Didn't order much else though apart from pet veg as not much access to kitchen next week so wasn't much point getting food in for me.

I can't get on with basil pesto in pasta, only ever like tomato pesto with pasta but then I love basil pesto on pizza or tortillas tosted sandwiches..

No response at all from Planet Organic after my email to them. Being patient but in a mighty impatient way. No response from Parcel force either. I only have two neighbours and they both say they have not had a delivery, one neighbour takes in parcels a lot when I'm at work as they are a retired couple. Planet Organic will be getting a call.

I got my first delivery from Graig Farm - organic chicken, organic chicken fillets, organic chicken sausages, veg box (only wont use courgette) and sustainable sourced haddock. Packed well, kept very cold and I even have instructions how to send packaging back free of charge. So far I stand impressed.
To those who are given much, much is expected

        £2025 in 2025 = £680.60
          Food Budget £180/9.30.
            Fiver Friday #13 £35

sams47 sending good luck vibes for you re: Planet Organic. You can get Graig Farm stuff from Tesco now online (not sure if all areas) with 2 days notice but no veg. I've seen codes for Graig Farm online.

Sometimes if you look at a website and don't buy, you'll find a banner ad will offer you a code and that was the case for Graig Farm.

Kirri - OH sometimes makes a pesto with watercress after removing stalks, which tastes pretty good.

sophlowe45 - good question. I'd suggest taste but that depends on your tastebuds I guess. I could taste whether something had sugar or artificial sweetener but not which sweetener. If they mislabel then they are risking not only losing their organic certification for that product, but also possibly a big dent in their reputation.

Lynsey reports on another thread that Home Bargains has Kallo organic beef gravy granules for 10p (just trying says they taste good) and chicken ones for 19p. Thanks to Lynsey and just trying :T

Anyone had these ? OH has signed up to the snack boxes 3.89 per week. When I told him that I wouldn't buy him carrot cake etc now he pouted :rotfl:

Pretty sure I could make snack boxes cheaper, but I think his reason for trotting off with them is partly the trendiness angle. <rolls eyes>

The logo says Nature. Delivered. :rotfl:I'm not convinced and the boxes aren't organic. I'd put them firmly in the treats category.

But if he wants them.. stuffing Mars bars would be way worse. A horse would fail a dope test after a Mars bar and did :rotfl:

Tan Organic self-tanning lotion turned up, it says store in fridge. Just hope OH doesn't mistake the flash bottle for dressing !

Bit of a rolling smiley overload there :D

Looks like some of the ingredients are organic, stocked by Planet Organic and Whole Foods Market so far

Very addictive little boxes!! I've had them on and off a few times when they've done an offer, used to see quite a few people getting deliveries in my last office too. I ended up putting all the ones with chocolate in on my 'send soon' list though which wasn't that healthy.. and anything overly healthy ie all dried fruit I wasn't mega keen on eating as was so used to use it in baking. The wholemeal shortbread and compote was so good and the brazil nut and choc buttons was a fave. Even though not organic I may start them up again when working as they are really handy to snack on with a huge variety I couldn't replicate at home.

Tanning lotion in the fridge, that's unusual! Are you testing it out later?

This is the one I have used for ages:

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lavera-Self-Tanning-Lotion/dp/B001R1VI2K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1365166474&sr=8-4&keywords=lavera+self+tan

This is good too though I've used the one above on my face as well.

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/lavera-33035-Calendula-Summer-Glow/dp/B001R21DCO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1365166569&sr=8-3&keywords=lavera+self+tan

and as we may get some sun soon, I will need to restock on sun lotion. I LOVE the Green People one though miss the old factor 8 they did so now get the 15 (Lavera was ok but I found a lot of the creams thicker and more difficult to apply and Dr Hauschka weirdly didn't suit my skin so much when I used it in Greece as I ended up with skin rash/prickly heat? which I'd never had before)

            Fave sun lotion ever:

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/Green-People-Lotion-SPF15-Accelerator/dp/B0013G4HXQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1365166697&sr=1-2&keywords=green+people+sun+lotion

As a general moisturiser in the summer I switch to:

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-Solution-SPF15-Cream/dp/B001FFFVXU/ref=pd_sim_beauty_10

and it works even if apply it first thing, go out on a cloudy day and it later turns really sunny and everyone else burns except me :D

although last year switched to (despite not being a teenager but trying a sample..)

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/Face-Sun-SPF15-moisturiser-50ml/dp/B002RSHO4I/ref=sr_1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1365166981&sr=1-1&keywords=oy+sun+green+people

            Back to food and:

Hairy Bikers last night apparently went to Riverford - I didn't watch but will try and see it on catch up shortly.

Lovely salad box from A&C today, really fantastic selection and quality. I didn't like the sourdough though but will try another bread from the selection before making a judgement. It was slightly over cooked too plus again the salt levels are too high for me, having mostly given up salt as a teenager anything now tastes really salty to me.

I bought OH a mortar and pestle and he can make pesto himself now. You just need olive oil, garlic, pine nuts, basil, parmigiano reggiano, sea salt if you want.

Definitely NOT potatoes, potato starch, rice starch, apple vinegar, ascorbic acid, lactic acid, cashew nuts, sunflower oil, lysozyme, grana padamo. pecorino romano, pecorino sardo, rice flour, garlic powder, sulphur dioxide, lime juice, lemon juice, water, mustard seeds (unless doing own variant), black pepper (ditto), cashew nut flour eww

I'm suffering from additive overload just looking at that load eww

The whole purpose of pesto for me is having basil in stock at any time. :p I'm afraid I buy the reduced fat and then add what I want to (extra cheese, extra nuts) because I am funny about oily food and it tends to have the most basil.

I can't get excited about potato, rice or even glucose-fructose syrup ('orrible as it is) when it's at a lower concentration in the product than the salt. :o I like to think of myself as not liking overly salty food - never add table salt in cooking and only use reduced salt bouillon - but I more often crave salty stuff over sugary so pretty sure I am kidding myself. Could be low on magnesium again.

I've had a 2 great deliveries this week - a Donald Russell meat one with a great offer from Good Food Magazine, and some store cupboard bits and bobs from Goodness Direct, again with a decent discount code from a fitness magazine. Can I post codes on here or should I pop them on the discounts board?

Goodness direct was for £10 discount off £35 which also meant free delivery too. Got some organic raisins, Marigold Organic Bouillion, some organic muesli, and other snacky bits. Came very quickly too!:j
            Xx

I'd be interested in the Goodness Direct code/ a link to wherever the code is posted please. :)

I haven't bought much recently but it's all been from Amazon Subscribe & Save so enough to last me many months: Pearls of Samarkand organic dried sour cherries, Tropical Sun block creamed coconut (additive free, 15p a pack cheaper than KTC at Asda), Suma reduced salt vegetable bouillon (same ingredients as Marigold), Kallo Organic low salt chicken stock cubes.

So which next. Goodness Direct, Ethical Superstore, Planet Organic ?

I vote for either Goodness Direct for the frozen organic fruit and vegetables OR Amazon Subscribe & Save if you have not already: Clearspring, Meridian, Kallo, Suma and so on.

            Asda green olive tapenade
"Green Olives (93%) [Green Olives, Sea Salt, Acidity Regulators (Citric Acid, Lactic Acid)] , Extra Virgin Olive Oil (5.0%) , Lemon Juice (1.3%) , Herbs , Spices , Sea Salt , Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid)."

I add tomato puree to green pesto if I want red pesto. Tarantella is good value at Asda if you want organic tho it does contain a little salt.
