atomicblob recommended Cranstons of Penrith on the Westin Gourmet thread and the link is to their diced venison.

Recommended by anniemf2508 and one of my friends is Allens of Mayfair

Kirri mentioned Mrs Simkins's carrot cake on another thread so I looked for the Clipper website and found that there's an online shop for the teas :) Organic instant hot chocolate 70p per sachet.

Very interesting reading this thread does keep me busy with all the info i'm learning.
My clare barry order turned up yesterday-at first I had a phone call to apologise as they had put the wrong address on the parcel and it had been refused. They said it should stay frozen and it would be with me Saturday instead (wasn't too convinced to be honest) however a few hours later they had managed to get the fed ex man to come back with it thank goodness.
I don't think it would have been ok overnight, it only had one ice pack in and the lid wasn't down tight so although it was fine i'd have been worried if it had taken much longer.
I placed an order last night with goodness direct using the code-thanks for sharing it.
I ordered brown rice a few sacks of their rolled oats and 1kg of dried apricots all organic and some fruit jelly pieces which were b1g1f

    Good job it wasn't fish lindseykim13 !

Deliveries seem to be going pear-shaped all round at the moment !

Used the Abel & Cole cool wool box hanging about to put all the food in with blocks while freezer was defrosted and food will be going back in, in under an hour. A&C box and blocks kept it all rock solid frozen :)

I wasn't going to risk clams though, so had them for lunch and they really taste of the sea. Not anywhere as big as mussels however. Will wash the shells and use them as decorative mulch in pots ;) The blurb says responsibly sourced but I just noticed that they come from Vietnam so not sure I'd buy them again now !

Really love fish and seafood in general, but have been put off so much over the last couple of years for a number of reasons.

I don't feel right about farmed fish even when it's organic. Anything that comes from the pacific areas wild or farmed is off the menu due to farming methods and the radiation from japan contaminating the eco system and food chain. This means no tuna and it's one of my favorites :(
Having watched a disturbing program about how prawns are farmed and how one of their eyes is removed  I can't buy them. The farming process also turns agricultural land into dead land because of the sea water contamination :( I cannot buy and support this industry.

Recently reports have confirmed much of the sealife/seafood on the west coast of America, the Gulf coast and the Atlantic coast of Florida as being contaminated with radiation or toxins following the Gulf oil disaster and so called clean up and the Fukushima disaster.

    http://enenews.com/manatees-dying-record-numbers-florida-deaths-pelicans-turtles-dolphins-spiking-scientists-fear-beginning-devastating-ecosystem-collapse-videos

Although I can source fish from the Atlantic and uk coastal waters I wonder how long it will be before these too are polluted to a point where fish will be full of toxins and unhealthy.

Does anyone else worry about seafood or have you changed your buying habits because of concerns or principles for other things ?

The last time my shopping habits changed in such a big and strong felt way chickens were farmed and processed. I wouldn't buy it for a few years, but after missing it so much I relented, but only buy organic. If it's not on offer we don't have it.

    Thanks cupcake and sam247
Have had a look at both Goodness Direct and Graigs Farm and both look appealing especially with the offer codes. Can see me putting in an order soon. I so love a bargain :D

Riverford order came yesterday, meat this week and a large pork pie to share with fil when we go for a visit. Also got a bag of mixed salad leaves to go with the purslane and baby spinach in the fridge. I love salads, but have recently discovered I am intolerant to lettuce (which I love :() Anyone else have this problem ?

Looking forward to A&C next week as I have ordered gammon steaks.
Our Riverford order for next week includes the large veg box and a hand of pork and some beef burgers. The pork works out at £7.30 a kilo which seems very reasonable and it's not a cut we've tried before.

To me, the point of eating organic food is not taste or nutrition because they are variables. The point is lessening exposure to chemical fertilisers. herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and genetically modified stuff.

It always annoys me in articles when they miss all that out ^ and then people claim stupidly it's all a big con when they are eating any old mass/cheap produced crap without thinking about what they are eating instead.

Did you watch Hugh's Fish Fight on recently? That showed the prawn farming.. can't remember where it was now, Thailand or somewhere like that??

I'm probably not the right person to comment never having eaten a prawn in my life and not eating fish before going veggie, but even if I did eat it I wouldn't fancy it coming from those fish farm places abroad (they didn't even know what was in the fish feed they were feeding the prawns on).

I know the Cortas brand because I've had their tahina, Fire Fox. Not as good as Al Wadi Al Akhdar but better than English stuff.

Yotam Ottolenghi puts pomegranate molasses in dressings.marinades and dips.

Thanks! :) I'm thinking of of combining with red chill and/ or soy sauce or balsamic vinegar or maybe lime juice ... using to dress chicken liver, king prawns or maybe halloumi, I tend to saute these with veggies like red onion, mushroom, bell peppers and serve with greens, sometimes vine tomato or avocado. A change from mikawa mirin
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0069RUHN8/

Hadn't thought of using it in marinades, will have to hit Google. Maybe I need a new cookery book? Bang goes the budget. :rotfl:
