Yes suspiciously cheap, they are not on Ocado or Waitrose websites yet, only the 9 packs.

I think these are currently 33 percent extra free, so 9's with 3 free :)

Linwoods organic flaxseed, ground is one third off at Ocado for those that like flaxseed £3.32 for 425g.

What did people do before Ocado existed? I just bought whatever crap was available in Tesco as they sell very little I find ok in my local stores. Perhaps other Tesco stores are not like this depending on the local area, the big Sainsburys in Victoria for example is amazing.

Thanks for confirming its 33% extra TanH.

I am drinking Yeo Valley organic milk and I can really taste the difference, next time will get Duchy milk and place my first Waitrose online order.

Quasar a few pages back you linked to an episode of Countryfile with Prince Charles, it is the only Countryfile episode I have ever watched and I loved it, the school in south London was so great.

What about EYE Q Capsules 180 per pack
A hi-EPA fish oil formula that may help maintain concentration levels and healthy brain development.

have seen a lot people take these.

    Good question.

Fructose is a natural fruit sugar which comes in fruit with fibre, in nature. It can only be processed by the liver. When you take the fibre away ie juice, it's really not as healthy as manufacturers of juices from concentrate would have you believe.

Granulated or table sugar, refined from either cane sugar or sugar beet is 50% glucose, 50% fructose. Glucose goes straight into the bloodstream, it doesn't need to be processed. Everything in life uses glucose - every human, every animal, every plant. Glucose is only bad if your body can't process it.

If you look at the chemical structure diagram of glucose-fructose syrup (known as high fructose corn syrup in USA or HFCS) it looks different to sugar but once it gets in the body the linking bit between the two disappears and it behaves like sugar, it's as bad as sugar.

In the UK the percentage of glucose to fructose isn't shown in glucose-fructose syrup, in the US you may see a number after HFCS indicating how high the fructose is.

HFCS was developed in Japan in the 1970s, and is usually made from corn (maize). Since the USA subsidises corn it's cheaper than sugar and used in loads of stuff and most American corn these days is genetically modified.

Back in the 70s there were scientists who believed fat was the enemy and others who believed that sugar was. The people advocating low fat won. Though their research is discredited governments and health still push the low fat message.

If you eat fruit you get your fructose with fibre and you'll get vitamins and other good stuff and because it has fibre you'll eat less of it.

If you eat fructose in a refined form, it behaves in the body like alcohol and causes all sorts of damage.

Dr Robert Lustig MD explains it all better and 3 million people have watched this video. He's a pediatric endocrinologist, he is director of a child obesity clinic, he lectures at universities in USA and has written books.

    You are most informative.

I was reading a post of yours in a hurry the other day, about Carbs but had to dash and now can't find it.

I can't eat alot of things because of digestive and reflux issues - not many foods go well with me and I was taking some interesting info from you as I try and sort out my diet. I was doing well before losing my job and now i'm back to choking at night again and your carbs post interested me greatly.

Will look for it again when I have more time.

I have been reading the first 7 pages of this thread.

I am on post 141 on page 8 by bornintoit.

"I agree with you and Kirri going into ASDA this morning was almost like walking into a different store because my eyes were open I didn't really see food anymore I saw toxins and chemicals. I thought I would find it difficult to resist all the different food choices in there but It was easy. I was shocked at myself for not really noticing it all before. I don't know if brainwashing is the right word perhaps it is because it feels like people are being brought up to believe that this is normal."

Yes this is what I mean by going to Tesco and finding it very hard to find anything that I was calling crap. However, I find it very difficult to resist tasty junk food!

Have to watch the film Soylent Green now.

Just finished doing Ocado order.. Waitrose organic strawberries currently BOGOF 3.99. Mackie's organic vanilla ice cream also on offer reduced in price.I will have a little ice cream on Wednesday as my birthday, with some strawberries :)

sophlowe45 someone on MSE has a quote from Michael Pollan as a signature and there are some great lectures of his on YouTube. He advocates " shopping the edge" ie the fresh food and it's when you do that, you realise how much of the supermarket is filled with processed food. ASDA, Tesco etc just wouldn't exist as the supermarkets we know today if they only sold fresh food.

I have seen people looking into my trolley with a pityingly look, because I guess it looks so unexciting without all the brightly coloured boxes of Cheerios and Jaffa Cakes etc to them. I look in my trolley and apart from the odd tin of organic baked beans or ice cream, I see real food.

Some manufacturers are grasping the nettle now and doing organic versions of things.. there's now a choice of organic ice creams from Green & Black's, Mackie's, Yeo Valley, Booja Booja and Laverstoke Park Farm. Heinz does organic cream of tomato soup, tomato ketchup and baked beans. Waitrose does frozen organic pizza as well.

In the US, you can get organic Cheerios and Amazon UK sells the organic version of Kraft Macaroni Cheese. That's my personal junk food Achilles heel - the ordinary version (which Ocado sells) has so many additives it frightens me, especially with the UK-added 'May Contain Genetically Modified Ingredients ' label.

Hi suzanne77 thanks for that and welcome to the thread :)

Miroslav if you have questions about low carb just ask. I hope things improve for you.
  • For people who want organic fruit and vegetables it would be much cheaper growing your own than being ripped off by the supermarkets. Get an allotment or grow some in you back garden.

I do have an allotment but unfortunately it was impossible to grow anything over winter due to wet soil, last season was fairly bad so less stuff stored over winter plus pets need specific salad items that only grow here in mid summer so still have to supplement.

I'd still recommend growing stuff for those lucky enough to have gardens (I don't) but whether it's time or space constraints it's not easy/possible for all. Plus huge waiting lists for allotments as well.

I'm working back up the page in reverse order..

    sophlowe45 I know what I did pre-Ocado !

I spent an inordinate amount of time with my shopaholic mother trawling round supermarkets. We would hit Lidl (onions, carrot, tomatoes), ASDA (oil, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms) and then either Sainsbury's or Waitrose or sometimes both for whatever we could find. We did this more or less every week from March - August last year until I spotted an Ocado van :D

I know zilch about supplements as I don't take them. Hopefully Fire Fox knows about that one.
