Having bought a smart Blu-ray player and TV in the last six months, I've spent a bit of time reading up and researching products.
One thing that was pointed out to me in Richer Sound and (surprisingly) Currys, was that manufacturers did not guarantee the availability of Catch-up services on their devices. From memory this was printed on the packaging of Samsung, Sony and Panasonic products. My farts hospitalize small children

I have an lg smart and it annoyed the !!!! out of me that itv player and 4od were not available on it.
In the end I bought a now tv box which has all the catch up services, cracked it to run plex and use several of the little boxes as media servers on all our tv's.
If I'd realised this from the off I'd probably not have bothered with a smart.0 -
ITV player and 4OD will work on an LG tv but you have to run it through the browser not an app, or at least that worked when I tried it back last year. I don't watch either myself but got it to work this way when helping a friend find a way around it.0

It 'kind of' works, but 4OD isn't full screen which is annoying.
The NowTV box is probably the best way around it tbh, and it works out at £7.90 with Topcash back. It's a Roku box in disguise so at that price for all catchup channels AND as a media server is a bargain.0 -
