BBC iPlayer and LG TV problem

In June I purchased an LG42LM760T basically because I wanted to stream films and use BBC iPlayer both of which the TV was supposed to do. I purchased the TV from Currys.
When the TV was set up iPlayer did not work with 'coming soon' on the screen. I wrote to LG who advised me that they were aware of the problem and that they were working on a solution with the BBC - this was in June/July.
I still have no iPlayer. LG inform me it is not their problem as the BBC are a third party. I emailed the BBC iPlayer recently who replied "we are aware of this issue affecting some audience members, such as yourself, and are currently investigating it. Unfortunately I can't advise on when this will be resolved".
It seems I have purchased a television which doesn't do what it was advertised to do but I keep getting passed on and no-one seems to want to assume responsibility for it. LG say it is not their problem; BBC iPlayer don't know when it will work (if ever) and Currys say it is not their problem.
Where do I stand on this? Can I ask for a refund from Currys. The set cost £1299 and it seems a lot of money for one which doesn't do what it is advertised to do.

Yes, I have done all the upgrades. BBC iPlayer people actually acknowledge that there is a problem.0

What exactly do you want out of this? For a TV that you've chosen to keep for the last 5 months or more, I very much doubt you'll be getting a refund, particularly asyou've had a chance to reject it outright and you've chosen not to. If BBC Iplayer is that important then you could get a suitable, iplayer compatible blu-ray player and use this instead, maybe ask Curry's to pay for it. Don't LG themselves do one of these?0

Just curious - why would an LG BD player work with iPlayer whereas an LG TV would not? Aren't they likely to contain the same iPlayer interface?0

Contact Currys, state that the TV is not fit for purpose and you require a resolution. Then see what they say.0

I would argue that the purpose of a TV is to be able to watch TV. Having Iplayer is an extra but not having that doesn't make the TV "Not fit for purpose".
I assume at some point in the future the BBC Iplayer will be fixed. The SKY App is currently on its way and I don't see it being long until the remaining apps are updated.
In the short term I would follow neilmcl's advice. With a TV that expensive you want a BLU-RAY player as well to get the most out of it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Can you not view iplayer via the TV's web? i.e. just browse to https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer ??
I have the same model TV as yourself but the 47".
iplayer does work fine on mine. Did i need to download that app in the premium section? im not sure but might be worth checking the premium section to see if its downloadable.
Youve said you done all the upgrades so i guess your on the latest firmware.
Just to be sure, you have a net dongle on the TV?
Maybe try a factory reset and then do an upgrade if all else fails.
I think with iplayer being a 3rd party app it wont be reason to return the TV as 'faulty'. If all of your apps didnt work then you could start looking at firmware issues or internal issues but as youve expressed its just iplayer then i see no reason that the TV is faulty.
Good luck though and hope you get to resolve your issue.0
