It's not really a gripe with comping, but it's slightly annoying how there aren't that many comp's aimed at men.
I get that women have more options with Handbags, Cosmetics, perfumes etc ... but there are rarely any Mens cosmetics (You get the occassional aftershave and that same personalised razor comp that keeps appearing) but not much. There needs to be more Men Expert or Dove Men or something comps. Even most of the clothes comps are more aimed at women.

I agree with you there. I also think many companies select winners based on their sex or age eg a fashion store like Quiz clothing are more likely to choose a winner who is aged between 16 to 29 than a 50 year old, even though that 50 year old may have daughters or granddaughters who would love to shop at Select. (This is only an example so don't quote me!) Also the winners chosen to win for eg, a man's suit, men's trainers, football tops etc are usually men. (Again don't quote me - this is just what I have seen on some, but not all, comps.)
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

If they have targeted the competition correctly most entrants will be from the group they want so without the need for any bias most winners are likely to be from the target group as well.

Can I just ask if you guys actually want/have an interest in the prizes you try and win? I recently ran a giveaway on my blog and I spent quite a bit of money on the prize, carefully selected for beauty fans, and i would've been pretty gutted if it had gone to someone who'd just entered it for the sake of it being a competition...
I'd quite like to know for future reference with running giveaways/comps etc.

You may get more replies if you start a new thread, but to answer your question,I think most of us enter because we want to win the prize it would be pointless to enter if we didn't,for example my children are grown up and i do not have grandchildren yet so do not enter things for children, most women are beauty fans so of course they would want to win your item and even some men may enter to try and win for their partner.

The stories I read on the facebook section of heart/magic/smooth radio, etc comping pages! You know the ones, the 'My friend or cousins, daughters son has had such an awful day so winning this will make them soooo happy'!!!!

That always makes me chuckle because in no way does it "help" them win. I've won several prizes from the Global group and not once have I commented on there! :)

You'll always get some that enter just for the sake of it or to sell it on. Unfortunately, nothing you can do to stop them though.

I only enter for things I really want, or another family member would like - I find myself thinking of the scenario if I were to win a prize "Oh, so-and-so would have that". :)
    Thanks to all posters :A

Ah right, sorry! I wasn't sure if it was quite regimented when you can/can't post new threads. That's good to know :) as it's hard to know whether to be wary of or welcome compers!

I don't enter blog comps for that reason, I don't think its really fair. If I was a reader of a blog and they did a comp I'd enter that though.
I just enter and forget...hoping to win something! :)

I enter a lot of bloggers comps, and worry they think I don't have a genuine interest in what is being given away.
I enter to win for myself, a lot of bloggers have great giveaways that I probably wouldn't have had the chance to buy myself.
Giveaways by bloggers also are a great way for me to find new blogs to follow, and continue to follow after a giveaway has finished.
