What's your pet hate about comping?

LOL - I think we will probably have to agree to disagree about that one hun. Personally I don't think being called jealous is as bad as being called selfish and greedy, and especially as it was said tongue in cheek, in a lighthearted retaliation. But you are definitely entitled to your opinion

Seem to have touched some raw nerves not my intention at all.
I saw the thread title and answered honestly. I was not being personal to anyone or calling names. I was just saying that I thought that behaviour was selfish and greedy. My opinion you asked for it but obviously not what you wanted.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
Can I just ask - why does it bother so many of you what others enter or do with prizes??? I never even think about it! I see friends on Facebook entering to win pets prizes when I know they don't have pets, or entering to win kids prizes when they don't have kids or entering to win 'young' fashions when they are not young! And I never think - HUH They shouldn't be entering that!!!! They might be entering to give the prize to someone they know or to sell it but I don't give a monkeys! Everyone is entitled to do what they like - it is the compers who are obviously filled with jealously and envy that cannot help but call!
If I win I either keep them for myself, give them to family members or I sell them and the cash is a great bonus as it buys extra treats or essentials for me or my family. I don't feel bad about what I do - I put many hours into comping and probably only win a small percentage of what I enter! So COME AND HAVE A GO IF YOU THINK YOU'RE HARD ENOUGH - and if you do, I will just brush your comments off my shoulders because I don't give a HOOT what you think!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
Thanks for saying most of that shop to drop
I don't have a problem with people thinking differently about these issues. It is literally the name-calling thing that I object to.
Not sure if that make me a self proclaimed forum police member or notIf it does I take that title proudly. If someone has the right to voice an opinion on one side of the debate, then I have the right to voice an opposite view. But I don't think there are many people who like being called greedy and selfish.
In a way we are all forum police. We all have the right, and arguably the responsibility, to speak out when we feel it's needed. Plenty here 'police' the forum in all sorts of ways. This, to me, is different from being part of the comping police, who seem to want all compers to dance to their tune.
The rights and wrongs of any issue is up for debate. I truly don't mind being disagreed with, as long as I am spoken to respectfully.
Edit: just to add that I agree with Bluebella above. I could say that those moaning about selling prizes are the greedy and selfish ones, in that they want to keep the goodies for themselves. I'm NOT saying that, you understand, but it could be argued.
Why is it ok to give a prize to charity, but not to sell it? Giving it to charity still deprives someone who wants it from winning it. And if it's ok to give it to charity, then why is it so bad to sell it when you're broke and need the money? When I sell a prize, it still goes to someone who wants it - usually for a cheaper price than they would otherwise pay. They get a bargain, I get a little extra money. It's a win/win situation. And those of you against selling prizes, I bet most of you would do that with something big like a car. So why would it be ok to win a car and sell it, but not a DVD?I am brave, I am bruised

I agree Blulu
I also believe that being nasty to someone just because they don't comp in the way you do is more of a crime - it makes you out to be a bully! You are calling them for selling a prize but I could call you for being a nasty bullying and jealous comping troll !!!
People sell prizes for all sorts of reasons - they may be on benefits, be in debt etc with hungry children to feed, so the extra cash from selling a prize is actually helping clothes and put food on the table for their children, or enable that family to put the heating on for longer in this cold weather.:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
Hmmm I kicked off another debate lol.
My jealousy comment was more a generic statement, rather than an attack to previous. It's just my marvellous comedic timing made it rather co-incidental.
I stand by this all the time but if you really have an issue with with I say, or think that I'm a bit of a chrysanthemum, then just put me on tuliping ignore and have done with it. No skin off my nose at all (Yes, I'm using my flower swear filter). Either that or PM me and we can have an adult discussion about it, like a few have, no names mentioned, and it's all blown over
Choice is yours at the end of the day, isn't it
Happy comping everybodyGolly, I've got the newt pregnant...

To be honest, the threads people start to vent about not winning anything.
What exactly are we expected to say? I know it can be frustrating to go through dry spells (I, like everyone else, has had them) but I'm not sure what they are aiming to get out of starting a thread?
If you need motivation to continue entering, the IWIWIW section should serve to do that.
I mentioned this in a post the other day and got quite a negative reaction, but I think people who are easily disheartened shouldn't take up comping as a hobby. The wins are amazing when they come, but as they can be so few and far between, if you haven't got the patience then maybe you should re-consider. I know loads of people who have taken up comping after hearing what I've won....or at least they try to. They go a month or so without winning then give up. Maybe I should explain to them that for every comp I win, there are thousands and thousands I don't.......0 -

Completely agree! I also get sick of seeing threads started by people asking for example - are the daily mags worth it as i have entered them all for the last two months and won nothing!?? My answer to this is - they are only worth entering if you persevere! I think I must have been entering for 3/4 months when i first started and never won, but I didn't give up as I knew my day would come....and it did! I have now been doing them all for a few years now and I have some dry spells wen I can go another 2/3 months without a win on them but then suddenly I can win 3/4 prizes from them in the same month!
If you cannot perservere and accept that you are not going to be on a continuous winning roll, then you need to consider a new hobby! Comping is a hobby and hobbies are meant for enjoyment!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
Sorry slightly off course but my comping pet hate is the words "comping Police"
Where on earth did that saying come from?
Lets face it, when ever anyone uses the expression "comping Police" it is not being said nicely, it is because the person who uses that expression is annoyed about something someone has done. So why not say something like:
I find it annoying when people say don't bump the thread?
I find that much less offensive than "comping police"
I actually find the expression a type of bullying. This Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

I keep seeing that some on here do not like "Comping Police" but I've yet to understand fully what they mean.
Maybe a couple of links for illustration would be good as well.0
