I'd like to go to Brittany or the Vendee for our first visit to France. Living in the far south west our only really convenient port is Plymouth to Roscoff but the crossing prices are upping the price of the holiday by another 50%. I drove to Sussex once and it took us 9 hours:eek: so Kent crossings are out of the question, not to mention the extra travelling time in France.

I have some clubcard points but they don't seem to offer Plymouth departures. Any idea of how I can cut down the cost?

I am sailing to France at the end of this month, we are going to Houlgate (northern coast) I am always on a budget and looking for the cheapest option and was horrified to find most of the ferry crossings (single) were around £200, until I went on https://www.aferry.co.uk and found a crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe ( T Ferries) for just £57.00, we have gone for that and as it is a 5 hour crossing, we have added a cabin for the grand sum of £20.00.

I think you can only use the clubcard vouchers for P & O / Stenna, I am coming back via Calais / Dover and used my vouchers for that crossing, the website gave me the wrong price £80.00, and this is what my vouchers amount came to, when I phoned to book, the crossing was only £50, so I got three passes for the club lounge, no more fighting for a seat and we all get free drinks !!!

We've stayed at Audierne a few times. It's the most westerly point on Brittany.

Pretty little marina town and some fantastic beaches in all directions. I would recommend it.

    Sorry, missed this before.

We stayed at a friend's house. Plenty of rental properties there though as well as hotels, gites etc.

Thanks Dazzieboo, i will look on that website when i have more time and maybe try a newhaven to dieppe crossing, i guess we could always stay overnight somewhere before crossing to break up the travelling.

Plymouth to Roscoff prices are coming up at about the £500+ mark which is rather extortionate i think!

I love Brittany too. The weather can be a bit iffy, but usually ok inthe summer. Beautiful area, lovely people, great food, & best of all not to full of tourists. As it's usually for a very lazy holiday we tend to fly (to Dinard) & arrange transport through wherever we stay.
We've stayed in Morbihan which is a great area, especially nice around Guemene sur Scorff. Some very goood properties & only 20 mins drive from a beach.
I wouldn't bother with the Disney side of things, there will be far better & more fun things for you to see & do than that!

Hi - this might be too late for you but if you book your accomodation in a gite with Brittany Ferries as well as your crossing this can make their more expensive crossings into a better deal. We are sailing Portsmouth to St Malo with a week of our holiday in one of their gites. The crossing plus a week's accomodation was less than the crossing alone would have been and when you book the gite it doesn't change the price of the holiday which crossing you select, although you do pay a supplement for weekends, cabins if required etc. You can add extra time in France on to each end of the holiday too. I got an email from Brittany Ferries on Friday saying upto twenty five percent off these holidays too so could be worth a look for you.
