Where in France for a family holiday?

I'm looking at accomodation on http://www.holidaylets.net/search.asp for this summer for us and our two children. We're planning on driving over so wouldn't want to be too far away from when we get off the ferry but don't mind upto 4 hours or so. Having only been to France the once and stayed with a family friend I'm clueless where the best place would be for us.

My OH likes marina's/fishing and we all like the beach, we'll have a car (obviously) so don't mind a drive to the beaches but wouldn't want to be miles from anywhere. Would preferably like to be central to cafes/restaurants.

Sorry if I'm asking loadsa advice but any tips of good locations would be appreciated. We're looking at around the £500-£600 per week maximum for accom and it must sleep 4, not too sure on camping/caravans but open to any ideas.

Much thanks
Dx

Would you be looking to do any of the touristy things ?

Paris ? Disney ? Parc Asterix etc as you have children ?

or are you looking for a quieter ,more relaxed, chillout holiday / area ?

also which port would you be sailing into ?

We would want a pretty relaxing holiday but not too far away from day's out and I forgot all about Disney :o
I would assume the port would be Calais  where else could we sail to?

  • Brittany gets my vote for a family holiday - we're going to a house for two weeks in August near Pont Aven on the South Brittany coast.

Look on the gites de france site and pick the English language version. Prices there are often cheaper than on other sites but you couls also look at Chez Nous and holiday-rentals.co.uk
