The good news is that "Dave" (god I hate it when they call him by that name - take note Samantha, 'Dave' just doesn't roll off the tongue!!!) announced today that there will be just absolutely no way to live of benefits and nothing else, at least not for the foreseeable future.

Well, I'll believe it when I see it. I've known several people who spent years, and in one case decades, claiming unemployment benefit because they did not want to work. Still, Ian Duncan Smith is trying to sort it all out.

Yes, I hate it when they call Cameron 'Dave', as if he was our mate.

I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Oh I forgot, there is Conquest, near you. They do good designs, but they are a bit pricey. I got a quote from them for £18,000 for a 3.5m by 3m kitchen, with Bosch appliances, oak doors and granite worktops. It was a nice design, albeit very straightforward, so not exactly requiring much thought. I went with Optiplan who did basically the same design, but for less than £12,000. And I can thoroughly recommend Optiplan too. A fantastic company. Or you could employ an independent designer, then get some one else to install.

Personally I would look no further than Howdens Kitchen units with worktops from somewhere else that you like.

My dad is a Howdens rep, which means my whole family have Howdens Units and kitchens - in the first instance because of the discount he can get but then because of the quality.

I'm not telling you this to make money for the company (they are all very competitive against each other and its hardly one company pulling together as they are all run on an individual basis) but because everyone in my family loves the kitchens and havent had any problems in the last nine or so years.

My dad always reccomends that people get the units and doors but says that the worktops are not as good as you can find elsewhere (and that the appliances are SH*TE)

    Hi

This is not to say anything against Howdens products but you do realise they operate at the bottom end of the kitchen market. There are quite a few others in this sector that are all much of a muchness, but sometimes people require better quality and have slightly higher budgets in respect of this.

Like most things in life you generally get what you pay for and at all points in the kitchen market you will find companies that offer better value for money than others.

i've had 4 kitchens from diy kitchens now and cant fault them, grab yourself google sketchup and do the design, then order from them.

i also used diapol for granite worktops in my own house- got a kitchen that looks like i spent 15k for 6k

I mentioned them earlier, and they do. They design and manufacture bespoke hand made kitchens, albeit using chipboard and/or MDF as per most other companies. They did a design for me, and it was impressive, with colour prints showing the kitchen from various angles.
