At present we do not offer a self installation option.
The reason for this is as part of the managed installation wih a BrightSparks engineer speed optimisation is conducted.
In regards your current buffering issues is the router located at the master socket and are you using a wired connection to your PC/Laptop?
If you contact us either via Twitter @TalkTalkCare or join the TalkTalk Members Forum we can look into this in more depth.

That is good news. We've recently had fibre installed, and an engineer visited a couple of weeks ago and performed the speed optimisation. How do I order the box without the £50 installation as you can see that I don't need it?
Thanks0 -
I think you'll find that the answer to that is not yet written in the TT script...No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks all for the useful replies, espesh the TalkTalk guy.
I'm plugged into master socket but using wifi. If I was to go for youview or similar I would connect via cat 5. I sometimes wonder whether iplayer buffering is just down to demand v limitation of the service.
Price wise, the youview package would only cost me about another £3p.m. on my current Talktalk package so not really worth considering buying a box off the shelf.
Plugging my laptop into the telly....yeah, I've done that. It's a bit of a faff and I can't then use my laptop for anything else.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -

Hi Peter,
As advised at present there is no self install option for the TT supplied YouView TV Box as this is a managed installation, in addition to the speed optimisation the engineer will setup and demonstrate the box and its features, setting up parental controls etc where applicable.
@Penrhyn - No its not just an iplate, in fact iplates are not used specifically. The engineer has access to network tools via their pad which allows them to make speed adjustments, they will also ensure the internal setup is optimised to maximise the connection.

Thanks TalkTalk Company Representative.
Your answer is a little frustrating since most householders now have reasonable experience in setting up routers and digital tv hardware. Speed optimisation, if required can be done via a call centre chat, I've run through the procedure before. I don't have kids, don't need a demo and if all else fails I can RT#M.
The £50 does come across as a partial cost recovery for the box.
Still represents good value so I may go ahead.

Its a nice box, bear in mind you may need a pair of homeplugs if your router is too far from the box to run an ethernet cable. Don't know if TT throw them in as part of the install. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

They do but there's a charge. I was going to run a cat5 cable under the floor.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
Another Q. On the subject of home plugs or equivalent. Does anyone know if their performance is affected if they are plugged into adaptors or 4 way extension lead?Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

If they are filtered extensions you would have problems, however have used them with standard extensions without problems. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
