Acceptable hours - charity collectors?

Whats wrong with putting a no cold callers sign on your door? I'm never bothered by charity collectors or anyone else since I put it up.0

I think it is too late once its dark and after 7pm when most people have kids in bed etc.
I don't answer the front door at all, unless I am expecting someone. Anyone who knows me comes round the back and comes in.0 -
Were these two people from the same charity? Door to door collecting has to have permission from the council and each charity can only collect between the dates they have been given.0

I got really fed up last year with a constant stream of Pizza leaflets and put up a sign on my letter box asking them not to deliver them any more! I was really worried that they might get upset by this (and I would come home to old pizzas, millions of leaflets etc) but it has done the trick.
We never get any charity collectors door to door but I would not give to them anyway - they may have a list of those who give and then keep coming back. If I want to give to charity (which I do) I give directly to them, so I know exactly where it's going - either Standing order or money/shop donations directly.
And don't start me on the stupid bags that give hardly a bean to the charity who's name they use on them!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

These are useful, they perfectly fit my bathroom bin. Free bin bags are very MSE.
I still get pizza leaflets despite my sign but they don't bother me, its people knocking that irritate me and that doesn't happen anymore.
I don't get the Kleeneze/Betterware crap either now. Bliss.0 -

The boss comment I've had before from charity workers, and is one I find particularly offensive. That and is the man of the house home, which I've had before.
I have never had that when I've opened the door to cold callers, but if I did, my reply would be "the boss is me":).0 -

If its nighttime and the light is off I imagine they won't see to read your sign... :rotfl:
Unless we're expecting someone, we ignore ALL knocks to the door, any time of the day and any time of the year.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -

Some people still choose to ignore my signs.
I had some guy knocking on the door blabbering on about free solar panels and when I pointed out the sign he made some comment about it being free and therefore he wasn't selling anything. I questioned him about how on earth his company could give away tens of thousands of pounds worth of equipment and pay his wages without their being a financial benefit to themselves and he hesitated, stuttered and gave me the chance to say "Yeah, thought so. Bye" and close the door on him.
And some charity collectors, particularly religious ones I find, still ignore the sign. Clearly they see the sign says charity, they see religious but figure because the two are not joined together they must be exempt.0 -
I think 8pm is the latest time people to be knocking on doors, I wouldn't knock any later and certainly not twice! I wouldn't think twice if someone knocked at 8pm, a lot of people havn't been in long by then!0

I have Martin's sign up but still get disturbed. Had someone ring the bell earlier today and on Sunday too!0
