I write my kids names in their trainers in massive letters, they haven't been pinched yet.

I write my kids names in their trainers in massive letters, they haven't been pinched yet. But i would ring the school and let them know.
  • Who is afraid of the bully?

I can understand your fears, but you must contact the school and explain what has happened. The bully/thief will just think he can get away with it otherwise.

So does OP, yet her sons have been pinched.
  • You need to speak up on this one. The bulley has stolen something and is getting away with it because he probabaly knows nobody is going to speak up. Have you suggested that your son approach the theif - with other kids about but not in a confrontational kind of way - and just ask for them back. You never know the bulley might be so shocked by that, that he will comply. If he doesnt then ask your son again to tell the teacher what happended and take it from there. If he wont do it then you need to. Just becauase you report a theif it doenst mean your son or others will get beaten up. I know you want to protect him and not cause a fuss but all said and done there is a theif out there whose behaviour is just being rewarded through everyones silence. He will carry on if he isnt challenged and your son deserves his trainers back.
  • Thanks everyone, yeah I think maybe it is ME who is actually more worried about the bully hurting my son rather than my son being afraid. I just don't want my child battered! Well, I spoke to the Head of Year after school yesterday and handed in the letter to her. She has arranged for a meeting with the thief and his parents tomorrow after school. Apparently this is not the first incident he has been caught up in so at least the school is aware of his behaviour so the parents already know he has been in bother before. So I am glad she sorted an appointment with his parents so quickly but I think my anger about it helped her see I wasn't backing down on it. She is keen to sort it without Police intervention. So I hope that they (the trainers) are returned to the school tomorrow when his parents come in for the meeting. If not I am looking them replaced.

    Well done you !!!

Im surprised that the school doesnt exclude him for a few days. Kids at my boys old school were for far less than this. Makes the kids parents come down all the more harder on him if they have to have time off work.

Lets hope by you being brave about this and standing up that some other poor child might escape the nasty boys actions.

Just make sure your son knows its always right to tell you when something is wrong.

Tbh If I was you I would press for the boys parents to replace them. I wouldn't want to walk about in trainers someone else had worn.
There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.
  • Well, the meeting went ahead and it was the culprit and his dad who attended with the Head of Year plus the principal. The child denied it but the witnesses had all given his name and he was asked to seriously consider his response. His dad was miffed at having to attend the school AGAIN about his son's behaviour so he made the son tell the truth. He finally admitted it and said he'd "lost" the trainers. His reason for stealing them? Cos he was "bored" and it seemed fun at the time!?! So the Principal has excluded him from school for this week which will be reviewed next week. His parents have to reimburse me for the cost so I am going to get the money for that at the end of the month. :)
