Very good luck with getting back on the wagon. What do you aim to do with the financial freedom when everything is paid off?Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Hi Squirrell other than saving to retire early I haven't really thought about the bit in the middle:rotfl:
I've done a few tilly tidies and I was supposed to be going on the water tonight but not in that weather :eek:Original MF Date = July 2034Current MF Date = July 2025

What is going on with the weather?! I'm actually considering putting the heating back on last night. Mind you that was probably thanks to the 50 minute wait for the bus and the walk home afterwards.
Anyway 8p tilly tidied.Original MF Date = July 2034Current MF Date = July 2025

Right I've really not been keeping up with MSE properly for a looooong time but a few things have changed as hopefully I'm on the right path now.
I've changed my job as the old one was just getting too stressful so this means a slight reduction in income however it means I am getting about 2 hours back a day by not having to commute into the city as this new job is about a 15 minute drive away and it has free parking which is great! I'm much happier and I'm having to use my brain again.
Whilst I was on my amazing holiday earlier in the year thanks to my lovely parents who gave me the money to do it following the sale of their holiday home with instructions I was not allowed to put it to the mortgage or the house (they know me too well!) I made the decision to leave my volunteering that I've been involved with for the past 21 years to effectively get a life! It just became too much an all encompassing and with the stress levels of my job I just didn't want to do it anymore.
So after some major changes I have spent the last few months recharging which may seem excessive but until recently I haven't really felt like doing too much. I've always kept the majority of my MSE ways but at one point takeaways were near enough every night in the week and this also means that my weight has ballooned and this was even more noticeable on my holiday as I need the seatbelt extension on the plane:eek: I was mortified!! So on that note as well as logging my MSE achievements I will be planning and writing down some lifestyle and exercise goals/achievements and generally trying to be content.
I also realised that I need to put money to other things other then just the mortgage as it is a marathon and not a sprint so my money is also going to the emergency fund as it is nowhere near where I'd like it to be; to my wish list fund for the house and the most recent purchase from this was having my bedroom ceiling plastered to get rid of the artex as I cannot stand the stuff!! Whilst not strictly necessary it does make me feel better and adds value to the house. And finally to my holiday fund. Having had my epic holiday this year it's made me want to save towards another one in the next few years whilst having smaller breaks along the way.
So on that note
52p TT and £5 from a lottery scratch card that my mum gave me have gone to the mortgage.
Remaining £5 from the scratch card to the emergency fund.
Achievements today:
Got a congratulatory cards for a friend who is expecting, written and posted - she like to receive cards
washed the car
small stock shop at tesco of things I can't get at Aldi to use up an expiring voucher
filled up the car for my trip tomorrow
bought cheap paint from B&M to water down as the first coat for my bare plaster
applied said first coat
wash a load of washing a line dried it with lots of extra pegs as it was a tad blowy but warm!
picked up solid matt emulsion for main coats on the ceiling from a h*mebase over 15 miles away as the other diy store doesn't stock it anymore and there isn't a h*mbase in my city anymore! It felt rather odd driving out of the city to get to a chain
went for a swim and have a free shower at the pool
caught up on and finished some MSE diaries over the past few days which have really inspired me to start doing this properly again.
I have not task planned for tomorrow as I'm off to the other side of the country to see a part of my family who are over from the States and I haven't seen most of the for 14 years and it will be the first time ever I believe that all the cousin will be in the same place. I best be off to sleep as I have a long drive ahead of me.
Happy Saturday everyone!Original MF Date = July 2034Current MF Date = July 2025

Well I'm back from t'other side of the country and I had a great day despite some soggy driving conditions! I saw all my American cousins and met 2 of their kids who weren't born the last time I was there and they are now 12 and the one who I have met was 1 at the time so he's a tad bigger now. I also got invites to stay with all of them as they live in different parts of the states so there are some cheaper holidays although probably when I'm MF. There were definitely memories added to the bank today.
I managed to squeeze in a 10p TT around the driving and socialising.

Well done on resisting the heating! Mine's on
. Trying to restrict it to an hour in the morning and two hours at night with the thermostat set at 18 but I really need to use the woodburner more.
So nice to have you backOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!0 -
I'm known as my work radiator so that probably has something to do with it. If anybody walked in to see my hands around others to warm them up I wonder what they'd think of us!!
5p TT today
I fell asleep early this evening as I was on call last night and I never sleep well as I'm just waiting for the phone to ring. It's really unusual for it not to ring and as I'm just about to start on my own I'm shadowing people and yes you guessed it the three shifts I've shadowed there have been no calls:rotfl: Oh well hopefully I'll get to sleep soon!Original MF Date = July 2034Current MF Date = July 2025
