Honeymoon destination

I'm after some ideas for a honeymoon destination. My criteria so far:
- Less than 20 hours flight from London (so this rules out Oz, NZ and any pacific islands)
- Beach based
- Not America or islands that way (i.e. not Carribean, Dom rep, Cuba etc)
- £5k absolute max, preferably £3.5 - 4k
- 7 days minimum
- Not Thailand (been there before and done quite a few destinations)

The main thing I'm weighing up at the minute is whether to do a single destination or a couple, and for how long.

If I go for somewhere like the Seychelles or the Maldives, it's quite isolated and expensive, meaning that I'd only be able to do one location, and for a short period of time.

Alternatively I was thinking of somewhere like Langkawi in Malaysia. This is cheaper but still looks very impressive. It's not quite so isolated so I could do a week there, then a few hours flight to the Phillipines for another week or so.

Any suggestions?

  • Cambodia? Ultra cheap (once you're there) and stunning scenery and under utilised hotels.

OP, what time of year are you looking at going?

Reason I ask is that some Asian destinations have their rainy season June-October and some other destinations, Middle East for example, may be far too hot during June-early September.
  • Dubai or Capetown then Mauritius?

We don't want a winter wedding, but are thinking of having a spring wedding so we can avoid the dodgy weather patterns you mention.

    As for the other suggestions:
    - Cambodia - been there and seen all we want to I think
    - Mauritius + Cape town. Not a bad shout but we're not really interested in Cape town or South Africa in general
    - Dubai/Bahrain - Although the hotels look stunning, the city/landscape doesn't really interest me.
    - Skegness......

The Maldives is only about 1-2 hours flight from Sri Lanka - you can easily do a week in Sri Lanka seeing the sights, culture, animals etc followed by a week chilling in the Maldives.

Problem can be that just about other couple appear to be on their honeymoon!

As mentioned above - time of year can be critical, for both Sri Lanka/Maldives and Skegness.

Jeju Island, Korea. Not been but it's next on my list of where I want to go.
