I at first thought would say an iPad and a cheap phone, or an iPhone to do both I think the bigger screen of the iPad would be good for the bigger keyboard, but I would say something like the Nexus 7 would equally be a good solution and is much cheaper.
If you want the all in one phone option and an iPhone is too pricey then a Windows Phone could be just right something like the Lumia 710 or Lumia 800 (which apparently can be had for £150 now), the interface is simple to use just like the iPhone and provides all the functionality you are looking for.
I personally would not go for a Blackberry, the screens are just too small and the whole phone is quite fiddly compared to a touch screen, you also have to keep paying for the BB services to carry on getting email, the WP or iPhone can be used perfectly on wifi without any other charges.0 -
She has a netbook at home. What difference can an extra iPad make except that it is less convenient to use than a netbook?
Netbook - 4-6hrs battery life. Takes a while to boot up
ipad - 10hrs battery life - far longer 'on standby'. Instantly boots from standby
Plus - bigger screen0 -

Seems you lot can't read.
I thought of the ipad as she has broadband but its not much use out and about
So you will have ongoing data charges for all of the solutions. At least the BB plan is capped. So she can send and receive as many emails with attachments as is her wont.
Which other option can match that, at that price?0 -
Get the note 2. There's plenty of stuff to customise android to make it more accessible, she could write in handwriting on it if she doesn't want to use the keyboard that much and she's a lady, so will have a handbag to fit it in. Job done

I can read perfectly well thank you, hence why I said "at first thought" along with musings that a Nexus 7 would probably be a worthy choice over an iPad, I then went on to suggest the Lumia 710 and 800.
Regardless of unlimited email with a blackberry I still wouldn't choose it, the inflexibility of always having to pay for BIS just to use basic functions of the phone is only one reason, the user experience and simplicity of a Windows Phone or iPhone, coupled with a bigger screen, say for viewing emailed photos, would be much better are just a couple more.
I have no idea how much they would want to spend a month for calls/data but you can get unlimited data (therefore unlimited email with all the attachments), 250mins and unlimited SMS from giffgaff for only £10, that's already better than any BB plan I know off.0 -

Whoosh..... over your head.
It seems that you are missing the point....by a mile.
Can't you see the irony at baulking at paying as little as £2.50 per month for unlimited Push email and browsing(which actually fits the remit) and then advocating the spending of £10 per month....? What are you thinking??0 -
What's the obsession with ipads and tablets in general? It sounds like this person needs a netbook...oh wait they already have one. Have I missed something as this person seems to already have everything they need to meet their requirements.0

just exactly what's your problem? why don't you cite your arguments in a diplomatic courteous way rather than with snide comments and sarcastic smiles against anyone who says anything that disagrees with you.
we're all here to give options to the OP, it seems your only here to attack anyone after you have given a response you think might be best, don't you think there is something wrong with doing that?

Why don't you just admit that you were wrong, instead of posting erroneous information without checking beforehand and now insist on banging on about your hurt feelings.
I'll tell you if you are not man enough to admit it. You were wrong.0 -
