Esurv carried out the Homebuyer's Report for our buyers last year. The guy spent more than three hours at our 5 bed detached period (Tudor with later additions) house and appeared to be very thorough - spending ages studying the roof with binoculars for instance, yet the report our buyers received could have been of a different house! He found asbestos where there was none - yet missed a bit that was there (in an attached outbuilding) and reported a woodworm *infestation* that actually comprised around three old holes. He also recommended that the newly repointed chimney stack be repointed  Luckily our buyers were having none of it, completely disregarded his errors and went ahead without trying for a further reduction based upon his findings......
To sum up, I wouldn't recommend esurv to my worst enemyMortgage-free for fourteen years!
Over £40,000 mis-sold PPI reclaimed0 -
I'm not impressed, they were paid to do a valuation for my new build house for purposes of the mortgage. They carried out the survey on Monday 29th October, the surveyor had missed out the entire section regarding new build, this was then rectified at the beginning of this week. The survey had to be sent back to be rectified for a second time earlier this week as the same surveyor had used incorrect wording, the words pi** up and brewery spring to mind. Not amused that we have paid them £354 for nothing but !!!! ups so far. I defo wouldn't recommend them to anyone and once the mortgage is sorted a formal complaint will be being made.0

Esurv failed to spot that my roof was dangerously failing, they advised that the roof was 'free from visible distortion and in a servicable state of repair, but that it might need strengthening"
It was beyond repair- a 750kg watertank was balenced on 2 flimsy ceiling beams had snapped a purline, the roof structure already overloaded by tiles that were too heavy for it had been further weakened by having two dormer windows cut into it without any reinforcing. the dormer windows were sagging back into the house, the window glass was about 3cm off vertical at the top. When we had seen to issues e surv had flagged up, we started to think about the expected minor ish works on the roof.
The builder we called stuck his head up through the loft hatch , swore and advised us to call a structural engineer straight away. That suggests to me that the surveyor hadnt even looked, though it was easil accesed, even by standing on a chair. One of the beams was hanging off the ridge piece, and the rest were hanging on by about 2 cm. The ridge was visibly sagging, by about 6", this could be seen from accross the road.
We had to completly replace the roof at a cost of £25k, e surv refused to discuss the matter properly unless we got a diminution survey. We did, using a specailist surveyor that esurv themselves use sometimes. He concluded our total losses including removals, alternative accomodation etc ( i had to move out for 4 months) was over 40k. they have offered at most 10k, and seem to be trying to argue that the amount by which they screwed up is made up for by the amount by which we got it cheap( We bought it at just about the lowest point of the property crash.) Which I think is despicable. Theyre being very unhelpful, their 'expert' suggested we could have done the work cheaper by completly abandoning the top floor accomodation- two of the houses then 3 bedrooms! utter nonsense.
I've found it hard to meet day to day living costs over the last few months, and believe me, i do not live an extravagent life. Were it not for a supportive family and a bit of luck, I would have lost the house, and with it my chances of owning a house for the forseeable future. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU< DO NOT TRUST ESURV ( thats my advice anyway!)0 -
Just had a survey done from esurv for a remortgage, not too sure they actually came to the right flat, we do not live there. Apart from the number of floors of the building being wrong, and the number of flats in the building. He missed out a room and said the condition of the flat was average and needed some maintenance doing on it.
The flat has just been totally remodelled with a high end finish.
The value he thought was £0. He didn't think there was any call for 1 bed flats in central London.0 -
We had bad service from them. I paid extra for a home buyers report and the surveyor refused to comment on something |I specifically askecd him to look at. He actually said "I don't have to if I don't want"!
Needless to say on the next property we instructed someone else, leaving esurv with the mortgage valuation (compulsary) and telling them why. Even on what was meant gto be a basic valuation they described one room as a wooden appendage when it was a brick built extension.

Oh no, they're doing a survey on a flat we're hoping to buy next week...0

E.Surv = bargepole do not touch comes to mind.
They've had some awful press and they're slower than a snail.
They seem to have swung the other way now, whereas before they used to get bad press for missing things, they now cover their @rses by basically saying that the house is going to fall down.
My buyer is using them. They took a month to come out to do the survey, 8 days to type it up and then it sat in his out tray for a few days, so about 6 weeks for the report to come back.
So they wanted a structual engineer's report, which I paid for and it took them 3 weeks to come back and say that there was a standard sentence missing (no major structual work required) and they wanted that included.
So got that included and it took them another 3 weeks to come back again and ask for a quote on the work that the engineer suggested should be done at some time (not an urgent requirement).
So I got the quote and 2 weeks later I'm still waiting to hear if they will sign off the mortgage for the buyer. I'm just thankful that this is an empty property and not my home, with me in a chain, otherwise I'd have torn all of my hair out by now.
I know this is an old thread, but if it saves anybody from using them, then it has done a good job. Do yourself a favour, get a good local independent surveyor who will be happy to have your business and will respond quikly.
Next time I sell a property, I will make it part of the purchase agreement that under no circumstances is the buyer allowed to use E.Surv.0 -
I'm sorry to open this thread up, but I was about to start one asking if e.surv are ok.... Oh s..t...
We will have waited 2.5 weeks for our survey to be done, it is due on 11/12/13 which is a valuation for Santander, but, ...sigh...
we are also having a home buyers survey done at the same time
On Tuesday just by chance, we were told we'd have to wait 5 weeks for our HBS report, which is usless to us, as we'd have moved by then. We said as much, that its utterly useless to us with that time scale, and its costing an extra £350, so we asked them to cancel the HBS. Their reply was, yes, we can do that, but it would cancel the 'package' we had purchased, meaning they would have to cancel the valuation as well, and the date re-booked may be after the 11th  grrrrrrr...
And I didn't know it was e.surv until I got the letter today
If anyone has had any good news about them recently, please let me know!
With hope0 -
E surv are actually an umbrella group that have taken over a lot of formerly independent surveyors firms. So, if the original firm was any good, esurv are good in that area.
The glasgow branch is pretty good. Elsewhere, I can't speak for.0
