Take annual leave for some or all of it. Research whether you are entitled to any benefits to top up your income.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I was called for Jury service and I have always wanted to be called! Unfortunately I had to write to the court and ask to be excused on the grounds where I had to attend, meant I would need to leave home at 7.30am and rely on public transport to get me there for 9am.
Also I have no family locally to take my DS to school and collect him and his breakfast club doesn't start until 8am. And I could not rely on friends to do it for me either.
The court excused me on this occasion. I hope that I will still be called again one day when I am able to attend.0

My Oh deferred his about 4 years ago. I took ill on the morning he was due to start it..he rang the court and they were great, said not to worry and he got a date for about 6 weeks later.
I know of someone who's income was a lot more than what they allowed him,and his company made up the difference.Other than that,i dont think there's much you can do.0

I wonder what happens if you're self employed and can't afford the time away from your work. I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe 0 0

I just did Jury Duty at the start of September. I thought they paid out £30 odd a day unless it goes over a certain length? I also had to put LO into nursery full time (some mornings taking him at 7.30, he only goes 1 day a week usually). My journey from my door to court was over an hour (on public transport) and there were people there travelling 90 mins or more. You can deffo defer once (with good reason?) but you can only defer once. They have paid all my child care, travel and you also get a daily allowance for the canteen which you can claim back if you don't use.0

There were also people working until 2-3am who were going home then getting up to come to court for 10!!! (the first day you're in for 9 then generally in at 10 thereafter)0

Apparently you can claim back loss of earnings from the court if you have proof such as an accountants letter0

Pimento - After reading about a case which the judge said was so harrowing the jury were dismissed from doing any further jury duty ever again - that firmly put me off wanting to do jury service.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0

Not when I was called some years ago. I went all around the houses before simply telling them that my business would not survive if I had to attend and when they asked how long this would last, I told them forever.0

can you do it if you have a criminal record?
Depends on the sentence you got. If the offence is ''spent'' then yes you can.0
