    OK, I'll bite.

What, specifically, is so bad about iTunes?
It's slow, it's bloated, it uses it's own *unique* interface, it randomly rebuilds your library losing all your preferences, decides to delete all files on an ipod because it thinks it's a new ipod, downloads are slow, it randomly locks up, the interface consists of several small windows that are slow to scroll up and down, finding anything - whether on the computer or in the istore - is a pain, it doesn't organise files well. It doesn't work well with different screen sizes such that paging down doesn't take you down a page, download speeds are pathetic and don't seem to have improved since the days of 56k modems, synchronisation isn't guaranteed to work, it's fatal to download directly from the Apple store to your ipod as then itunes never pick up all your downloads

But most of all IT'S PAINFULLY SLOW, you can click on the scroll bar and it responds minutes later and you can watch it building up thumbnails one at a time. Compared to proper software it's like a Zombie

Most of what it does is already covered by the operating system or browser so why do we need to use software that was half decent 20 years ago and which has just been built upon since then.

The only thing worse is the process for updating ios which if you do it through itunes is almost certain to put you ipod into recovery mode and the only reliable way to restore it is to connect it to another computer which will restore it to factory settings - which of course means reloading your apps, podcasts, music and movies.

In short it's "as user friendly as a cornered rat"

Panasonic Viera TVs. Where do I start? Ridiculous really as they haven't given much thought about the menu design and user experience.

The menus are in the middle of the screen and sometimes you have to perform certain functions and you have to wait and wait and wait. Why not move the menu searching for an Internet connection (for example) to the bottom while the viewer can at least watch TV. Just common sense but it never occurred to these people that make TVs for a living!

The remote is horrible and clunky. The menu system isn't great generally. Hardly any software updates so it doesnt seem like they can be bothered to improve the system. What's worse if they don't have any dialogue with their customers (through forums, social media, etc) to improve their products and give customers what they want. Rant over and luckily the picture is good. :)

Well I have to say that I find iTunes is great, fast, easy to click and drop tunes to my iPod and put new albums onto it. But I use a Macbook, perhaps the problems are with PCs???
Also I agree LibreOffice is very easy to use. Plus we have freesat from Sky at £10 a month the Sky system is so easy to use, I gave up on the Humax complicated control and and glitches and sent the box back.

The problem is that Apple can't be bothered to design itunes to be usable for the majority of the users of itunes. You must not download Apps or Podcasts on a regular basis as loading tunes & albums is a minor part of itunes

Just done a test run on itunes - it took 30 seconds to load and another 30 seconds for the ituners store to load. When I switched to this screen to type this and back again it took another 20 seconds to display itunes. Switching between store and stored podcasts took 15 seconds and another 10 seconds to load thumbnails, plugging in the Touch took 30 seconds for it to be recognised. The App tab is split into three parts which together take up less than half the available screen, the part that shows each page of Apps doesn't show a full page nor is there any way of altering either the size of the Apps icons displayed nor give more space for that part of the screen, drag the scroll bar cursor down and it doesn't react for 10 seconds. The scroll bar for the full list of Apps downloaded goes off the part of the screen for Apps so you have to use the main scroll bar for the Apps area and the Apps list scroll bar to see everything. Same applies to the scroll bar for the App pages

Similar problems apply to the podcast, itunes U, books, photos and films tabbs.

Can anybody tell me how to run the calculator app in Windows 8, (a) from the "metro" front end, and (b) from the old-style desktop that doesn't have the Windows button at the left?

(I found it in Metro by randomly clicking mouse buttons in various places, and eventually "All apps" appeared.)

..... Plus we have freesat from Sky at £10 a month .....

Surely the "Free" bit in the name means you don't have to pay? What is the £10 / month for?

This may have changed since but in Build 8250 the Consumer Preview release you just hover in the bottom RH corner of Metro (where desktop peek is in W7) and it will slide out a sidebar on RHS in which there is a Search dialog (similar to W7 Globe --> Search Programs and Files). Type in Calculator etc

As opposed to clicking on Accessories and then calculator.

    That's progress for you!

Just to get back to cars, I've got a Mondeo (55 plate so not that old) and guess where the main fuse box is ....... it's behind the glove box.
So to get at it, you need to empty the glove box, fold in the side to make sure the lugs are clear and give a good yank to remove the (two-part) bottom hinges.
Then you need to have the wrist-dexterity of a bone-less person in order to get to the fuses on the left-hand side to change one of them.
Don't believe me, try changing the fuse for the cigarette lighter when it blows.
