    OK, I'll bite.

What, specifically, is so bad about iTunes?

Weeell... I suppose I did exaggerate slightly for effect. There are some usefull functions but I'd rather have a music manager that simply manages music on my PC and not have all the "Store" features that I never use.

But, my main gripe with iTunes is the apparent arrogance of Apple that everybody should to operate in the same way and make it hard for you to "deviate" from "the Apple norm". My main example is that I have a large amount of talking books and other speech programs. I also have a large number of music files. I therefore wish to have two libraries - something that I've not found easy (hold shift while you start and navigate to the library - time consuming and ridiculous ). As a botch, I had to write some VB scripts to which I could create shortcuts.

Also, prior to migrating to a faster processor, iTunes was so painfully slow in starting on my XP machine - it was the slowest program I had installed. I assumed that it was optimised for Apple platforms and, to me, it's slownest on Windows was giving the impression that is was Apples way of punishing you for not having a Mac.

Anyway - putting that aside - I'd rather that this thread does not turn into pros and cons of iTunes. Let's just get other examples of stupid designs.
Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.

I've just switched to Libre Office. I can't tell you the sense of relief I feel at no longer having to deal with that wretched, vile ribbon. You couldn't pay me to go back to MS Office

Couldn't agree more on the ribbon. The biggest reduction in productivity I've come across in a so called "product improvement".

It was designed to be a music manager AND a Store access point, though. Your preference to use just one of these aspects isn't an indicator of bad design, it's an indicator of your desire to use just one function of the program.

That's like me saying MS Office is badly designed because I just want to use Excel. Why has it got that pesky Word Processing feature that I never use....?

Good point - just me being grumpy.

Firstly Freeview Tuners - I've had many over the years from the original "Digiboxes" to the latest in-built tuners. What amazes me is how complex and time consuming they make the process of re-ordering (and removing unwanted) channels. If you're lucky you'll find one where you can select a channel and move it up and down to the required position. If you're unlucky, you'll get one where you have to select a channel, move to the position you want it and swap it with the channel that's there (and the scrolling can be painfully slow). Given the number of channels that are now broadcast in Freeview this can be so laborious!

I've never even thought to look for this function in any Freeview or Sat box that I've had, merely left all in their current order.

Does anyone else look for/want this functionality in their Freeview box?

power supply sockets on laptops! They either get so stressed that the cable breaks inside or the actual socket on the motherboard gets broken off or the socket is glued down and the thing gets fractured to pieces .
If sockets are such a replaceable item, why isnt there a little port cover that can just be uncovered and a small seperate board with the socket on it, so that anyone replaceing one can unscrew the cover, unscrew the old socket on its little board and screw in the new one without having to gut the whole computer.

Agreed, why other laptop manufacturers dont try similar designs as the magsafe is puzzling.

As for worst contender, how about Lotus Notes?

You can put the Renault Scenic in your list of these things.
You have to dismantle a fair bit to be able to change a headlight bulb.
