Just spent ages trying to get The Times list of Coolest Places to Live but think you must have to be a subsciber to access it. DD came in telling us about it. Here is what the local paper says :-
Kirkcudbright has been named as one of the UK’s “coolest places to live” in a national newspaper survey.
The Artists’ Town ranked among 30 fashionable places such as Stockbridge in Edinburgh, Jesmond in Newcastle, Glastonbury and Brixton.
The list in The Times on Tuesday was topped by Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, but Kirkcudbright came in at number 28 thanks to its apparent “quaint atmosphere and wonderful light”.
The list’s author added: “Kirkcudbright’s artistic bent is obvious the minute you walk its streets.” The town’s summer festivities programme even heralded a mention.
Kirkcudbright’s links to art stem from its famous residents over the years such as E A Hornel, Jessie M King and her husband, E A Taylor, and Charles Oppenheimer. It was also a summer retreat for poet Robert Burns.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

O'h well chip off the old block I suppose.
See you all tomorrow. xMar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

Thought I'd just pop in and say hello/test the water etc..
Haven't been here much before but think maybe I could join in and contribute here a bit rather then all the dis-jointed conversations I end up in on the main board/s..
So to start...
My name is Gordon and I am a comping addict!!
Since the birth of our daughter before Christmas I haven't been comping much but I still really enjoy the board - the IWIWIW threads and compers chat corner.
Having plucked up the courage to join in on this thread though I thought you ought to know that I believe in many things (definitely including the Comping Fairy and Karma (although sometimes I wish it would manifest sooner ( Karma that is, not the Comping Fairy ( although s/he is always welcome )))) but I am always willing to change my beliefs when presented with better evidence..
As Alice said - Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!
Anyway - reality is I am a married father of three ( 9 yrs, 8 yrs and 16 weeks) - who enjoys our shared hobby and would like to join in with the banter:smileyhea Thank you to all that post comps - may the Comping Fairy return your time and generosity doubled!:smileyheaLaughing at our own mistakes can lengthen our own life. Laughing at someone else’s can shorten it.Pronoia - the wonderful feeling that everyone is conspiring to help you!!

Thank you - s'been a long day and I'm off to bed - to sleep [STRIKE]perchance to dream [/STRIKE]- no - to be woken shortly by a baby that has no concept of hours/sleep/work and believes that it is all here for her entertainment and as the doting dad that I never thought I could/would be I will not be disillusioning her.. where's that rattle and cuddly elephant?
Night all!
And all the very best to all of you and yours!!:):smileyhea Thank you to all that post comps - may the Comping Fairy return your time and generosity doubled!:smileyheaLaughing at our own mistakes can lengthen our own life.
