Well I originally posted the deal on Friday evening and I just got the generic cancellation email from HMV. So not convinced that the 'newbie' got one either0 -

I think the answer to this observation is a very close read of the email which HMV have now sent out.
Quote
"On Friday HMV reduced the price of this item, but such was the popularity of this offer that it oversubscribed more quickly than we anticipated, especially after it was actively promoted by consumer-deals blog and websites over the weekend. blah blah blah....... and on behalf of HMV I would like to sincerely apologise to you"
i.e HMV very deliberately advertised the deal on sites like HUKD etc to get maximum publicity - hence it was "newbies" who were posting and those self same "newbies" who are now claiming to have got one.
Personally I don't believe a word of it - or them.
The original poster on HUKD was Skimper - who had no previous posts what so ever - and was promptly banned by HUKD who perhaps smelt a rat.
There were also reports of Tweets from HMV - following widespread chat on-line about it not being a genuine price. But as someone commented, all the tweets were sent out at exactly the same time !!
p.s - if HMV could tweet to say it was a genuine price, they could tweet to say it was already oos.
IMO this is a case of HMV doing a spot of cheap self promotion, at our expense.
I sincerely doubt anyone got or will get one of these. I cannot see anyone on HUKD saying they have one, and it was posted on there about a day before anything appeared on here.
Presumably HMV thought whilst we were ordering a "bargain" we would be browsing their website and ordering hundreds of pounds worth of other products.
Doh !!
If a company cannot send the ONE product I do order, why on earth would I risk ordering anything else from them?
Thick or what !!
No wonder they are in trouble with tricks/tactics like this.
p.p.s just spotted HMV have just started their sale.
Gosh, what a coincidence with the timing !!!0 -

Assuming that they're telling the truth, fair play to them for admitting their mistake.
If it wasn't for real, then the joke's on us, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Same sentiment as many others share... Might make an exception and use them if they have a closing down sale in the foreseeabe future, which looks an increased likelyhood now lol. Not a popular company after this fiasco.
They were struggling at the start of 2012, so this won't help them much!0 -
