Hello
I am totally fazed by tyreshopper, tyrequote etc. I am perfect to be short changed by a tyre outfit as I am a woman who knows nothing about the subject
The no on the tyres of my car is
205/55 R16 91V which seems pretty standard and an absoluty huge range of tyres available. I can't ring round for quotes becuase I havent a clue what might be best
Are there two or three standard makes/models that are usually good value and that I could focus on or do I just hope for the best!
Many thanks

    hi moneylover
i would suggest kumho as budget you should get these fitted including balance and old tyre removal for about £50 a corner

next up bridgestones about £60 a corner

michelin i dont buy ,too expensive but obviously good tyres and considered premium brand

Different tyres places will stock different brands. Your best bet is to ring one of the biggest places up and get a range of prices for premium, mid-range and budget. Decide what you roughly want to spend based on that. Then ring round the rest and see what they've got in your priceband.

Post back when you've got a few brands and prices.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

  • Other decent mid price range and perform well are Uniroyal Rain Expert and Rainsport, Vredestein Sportrac 3 and some Hankooks which are increasingly found as OE fitement on many new cars including Fords.

As a guide i've looked at one regular recommended supplier, Camskill, they are offering Uniroyal Rain Expert @ £52.90 each, if you buy 4 they will charge you a tenner delivery and it will cost around £10 each to get then fitted if you shop about.
If you wanted a good name Goodyear Optigrips @ £59.75 plus del and fitting.

Other online suppliers, namely Mytyres who i have used many times too, offer free del but might be slightly more expensive for the same item.

You may not want to get involved in online purchasing, which is fair enough, but should give you some guideline how much good tyres will cost., Mytyres site does have a fitting centre search facility with fitting prices shown, very useful.

Unheard of Chinese ditchfinders best avoided for lots of reasons.
  • I have just had the rear tyres replaced on our Volvo. We used these this firm.

I would certainly recommend them and would definitely be the first place I look when I need new tyres in the future.

    Blackcircles

order, and book fitting online, then just turn up and they do it all for you.
    No upselling, no rip off.

Kumho's are £63 fully fitted, but I'd go for Uniroyal Rain expert for £71 each.

Not wishing to start the budget vs premium debate again, if its just a normal focus (not a fast one) just get the cheapest from your local independent tyre place. I mean a place that just does tyres (and maybe exhausts), not a mechanics as such.

If you want to buy better ones as suggested by others such a place will almost certainly be cheapest, even cheaper than online.

ValueTyres (online) seems cheapest of the online places when I've looked.

Find the tyre you want (mid range IMO unless you are a racer) then find the cheapest price online fitted, then call a couple of local tyre fitters (not kwikfit) and see if they will match or beat

thank you all so much I am so impressed. In the end we went withBlackstones they were £80 but got him down to £75. We had to have four. So reasonably pleased although willl hopefully do better nexxt time with our other car (fiesta) - would prob go Khumos withthem.
Still a lot of tyre buying ahead of me in life so will print this out and keep - I feel much more confident about the process now. Quite humbled by all the help given.
Two things - we were given a print out showing how much the tracking was out - ended up paying about £60 for this. Was that a rip off?
Secondly was interested in the place that comes and does it at your house, posted further up, how can they afford to be so competitiive? Also, if you use such a service can they do tracking from a van?

The place we went to was called Supertyres. In Maldon Essex.
    Thanks again.
