I like the short stay lodgers as I need a little extra money but wouldn't like someone here all the time so it works well.
I use spareroom when I advertise, so perhaps have a look on there.
I used to take long haul cabin or flight crew. Never saw them!

I'm sure there's a market out there waiting to be tapped in to . We've been in this position several times (always during the winter, luckily, so have found off-season holiday lets to be our best bet), and what we've needed is a home (house, flat, whatever) that we can rent for more than a couple of weeks, but less than the 6 months most landlords want. We did find a landlord once, who was totally geared up for this - a hotel had built some houses for the holiday let market, but discovered that there was more money to be made in short-term lets to contractors, Polish migrants, and so on. We were there for 6 weeks and as well as the house we had access to the hotel's facilities (golf course, shop, and reduced rates in the gym and pool). Perfect.
No use to the OP, as it was in Ireland - but any budding entrepreneurs out there, take note, there were at least 20 houses and none of them were empty! No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
So far I have used the Ramada deals and Devere deal and Holiday Inn 241 and I've booked about half the nights we need. Most expensive was £40 cheapest was £19. We paid the £40 as its near were we are going to a wedding so it seemed a good excuse. I am under budget and working on it still.
We looked into campervans but the site fees were at least £20 a night and I got some rooms for that with pool and soft towels so that won!

sounds fun!
how many nights in a row have you managed to get?0 -
The most nights together are 5, and that was by booking a three and a two at the same hotel on different days (the rates were going up and down) Mostly we are little nomads, wandering form place to place. Quite often its two nights, and then one night here and there

I can recommend this hotel in Reading for cheap, 'more than adequate' hotel rooms - I think all rooms have microwaves in now. From £29 a room.

Not sure if it's a million miles away from where you need to be - a relatively quick, but pricey commute into central London.

I will. I'm going to make a blog of my travels......... if I get the hang of how to blog!
So far I can say I used the Devere Autumn deal to book several nights, some for as low as £19 a night. One day we had a lot of trouble booking, and we phoned the central reservations numbers and spent a happy half hour with a lovely lady who walked us through a couple of bookings plus telling us all about the hotels we were considering.
I have also booked some nights with Ramada using the 24 hour sale. These I got for £20 a night, and I have had to be flexible on my location to get the price I wanted, so its a mix of London, Farnham and Gatwick (we are flying to visit my DD the next day so this was a coup)
Then I did some research and discovered that as RAC members we can use their linked offer with Holiday Inn, whihc I did to bag a two for one deal making it £29 each night.
I have essentially run out of money to book anything else now until pay day Friday, but I am still keeping an eye on deals meanwhile.
And I have started to research cheap places to eat. We know where the Tobys are, got a Sizzler near by too, some decent pubs and a couple of colleagues who cant put us up but can lend their kitchen for an evening
What an adventure! (Or a nightmare......... not sure which)
