I think it's 10p a b/w page. we have to print lecture slides out and seminar stuff so I think over the course of the 3 years it would make more monetary sense to buy my own, and it would help with me being organised as I generally don't have a lot of time before lecturesAngry_Bear wrote: »What sort of printing allowance and costs does your deparment have? Way back in the day mine had good allowances but if you ran out you could top up hundreds or thousands of prints very cheaply. Scanning was free and photocopying counted the same as printing. Much quicker than a home machine too.
You might find you don't need one at all!Maplins currently have that handyscanner thing for £50 - I have one I bought last year and frankly so many people want to borrow it over the past year it has been a great investment. I still keep a sheet-feeding laser multifunction as when you have a pile of A4 to scan, you can't beat it, but for scanning books actually in the library you need one of these - VERY efficient way of working!!
Cheer's for that, £49.99 seems to be the cheapest so I'll think about buying one, because I cant weigh up whether i'll use it or it'll be a nice gimmick that I won't use!"Nothing, Lucilius, is ours, except time." - Seneca

Wow, that seems expensive for a uni. You're right, at that rate you'd almost certainly be better off investing in your own. You could also let other people use it if they contributed to paper and toner.I think it's 10p a b/w page.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

Great thing is that it's small and light (like about 25cm long and 2.5cm square in cross-section) and slips in a jacket pocket without bother, so you can still go to the bar after the library without worrying about bags, etc. I wasn't sure if I'd use it or if it was a gimmick, I have ended up using it far more than I thought I would - and lots of people who borrowed it have then gone and bought one for themselves.0 -
