They're all 8V with the exception of a 1.7 CDTI 16V. It's really a diesel I want but they're all a wee bit out of our price range. Just a couple of hundred though and we'll save this on fuel within 6 months so maybe I should stretch it a little. Do dealers still give you a small discount for cash?

It's the HR-V we're looking at. Is it the same issue re parts? I'd love a 4WD for the long NE Scotland winters!

they did lots of 16 valve weakotec engines
just about bust the company most horrendous engine vauxhall ever made
they did a last of the range 1600 8 valve with proper sparky plug leads to a coil, buy a good one of these with no clatter as i said and its the last of the bullet proof vauxhalls before they filed for chapter 11

Yeah, I've heard that the Mark IV was the best of the bunch and it's the best looking version too! Well, we've got 4 to go and see today -

    1.6 Club, 53 plate 46,000 miles
    1.6 LS, 04 plate 84,000 miles
    1.6 Club, 51 plate, 85,000 (£995!!) and it's got a years MOT and FSH
    1.6 Club, 52 plate, 46,960 miles

Fingers crossed we get something today as we're having to travel to find some decent motors. Not a huge distance - from Angus to Fife/Edinburgh but I really don't want to do this for the next three weekends!

The 'vauhall vectra' council tenants choice of vehicle.

I personally wouldn't have one or drive one if I was giving one absolutely FREE.

I wonder if anyone could advise. I'm going car shopping tomorrow and I've found a cracking 2 litre Vectra diesel registered 1997. Crikey it's the same age as my daughter!

It's only done circa 70,000 miles. It's dirt cheap at £600. There's a CAP Value of £1100 to £1125 from a dealer (which this one is).

Why do you think it's so cheap? Do you think I should be wary? :o

TBH,having owned Vectras of that era
    they're a bit crap
IMO they made a very poor job of replacing the MK3 Cavalier
£600 is on the money for me (to give perspective,we picked up a 307 SW 2002 for under £750 with FSH)
could be fine and run many miles, however as has been mentioned the fuel pump
also suspension components could be going at that mileage
however its a cheap car and its the gamble you take

and neither of us know enough about cars to take a gamble like this. OK, it's only £600 but we have a bigger budget than that and we'd prefer to spend it on something with better reviews. Always go with your gut instinct I say.
