Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 4th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Getting nippy today x
Poor April - today we hear she has cerebral palsy and needs pain medication. I really feel for parents and friends but am even more horrified that a five year old was allowed out to play at 7pm. I apologise if that is judgemental but a whole life working with babies and children has really opened my eyes :(

Hope you guys have a good day. Big hug for Maud xx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Thinking of April - hope they find her alive and well, but now thinking that may not be the case, so sad that we can't allow our children to play outside safely.

Light cloud, and dry here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was lamb casserole, mash, carrots, cauli, broccolli, and yorkshires, was delicious. Wasn't sure about tonight's dinner but am thinking of egg, bacon, chips and beans for the menfolk and omelette and salad for me. DS2 stubbed his toe and so I spent a while at hospital yesterday and they confirmed it's broken, so keeping him off today with foot elevated as its now swollen and the bruising is coming out. Will do all the normal chores as still have loads of washing, drying and ironing to do but doesn't look like the weather is going to be good enough to line dry so will have to use TD and whilst house is not horrendous it does need some attention.

Will also menu plan and write a shopping list ready for tomorrow so I can remember to buy all that's needed at the SM! We're not away this weekend but will be quite busy as have a caravan meeting to go to Sunday and that will take up most of the day, so I'm thinking I'll do a roast Saturday evening as there won't be time Sunday. May visit the butcher again tomorrow as was very impressed with the quality and prices - so may start going there and bulk buying to freeze.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Good Morning All

We are all here thinking of April - can't imagine what they are going though. I have to agree though Molly, it was too late for a 5 year old.

BB - hope Maud starts improving today

Redruby - Good Luck vibes being sent to DD

Lovely sunny start here today, OH hasn't any work today so he is just off taking DD to the station. Means I have had a good start in my office and got everything done that needed to be done bar a couple of phone calls which I will do after 9. Then will jump in the shower and get some ironing done. Loads of energy again today :j so looks like I will have to keep this gym lark up . Legs a bit achy but thats it.

Leftover chicken tonight so think will turn into chicken rice - very easy.

(((Hugs))) wherever needed, have a lovely day.x

Morning all - yes the April story is so sad. Hoping for the best possible outcome.

Had a successful 2nd day at work yesterday and started the clean-up on all the work that didn't get done during my absence. I've been pretty good at watching my posture and getting plenty of regular stretches and exercises in. One of the guys knackered his neck at the same level as mine at the same time; he's managed to avoid surgery so far but I can see he's in pain. Meeting HR today to decide on days/hours for next week. I could definitely get used to working part time! My colleague has college Monday mornings and Tuesday + Friday afternoons, but I'm not going to offer at this stage to do the afternoon shift - I could still be there at 8pm and I don't think that's sensible at this stage. I may well do 10.30 - 3.00 4 days next week with Wednesday off, or opt for an earlier start and finish if they'll let me. The boss is treating us to lunch from Wagamama's today while we go through the workplan for the next 6 weeks. Incision has healed and neck pain is much reduced, so I'm functioning well and delighted to be active again. I surprised myself by bouncing with energy last night when I got in - I washed up, washed and dried a load of laundry including my autumn raincoat, and then made a proper dinner. I took some meat out of the freezer yesterday morning and even when it was defrosted I couldn't tell if it was lamb or pork, so I bunged it in an oven casserole on a low heat with fried red onion, Savoy cabbage, peas, leftover white wine and gravy powder to thicken it at the end. DH raved about it (it turned out to be pork) and the cats loved the remains so it was definitely a success.

I popped into M&S to look at shoes on the way home; I need a basic waterproof pair and found some for just under £40 but I think I'll wait till next payday. I only ever have one pair at a time - I'm not into shoes.

Dinner tonight will be something simple like poached eggs (or I might go for bacon, egg + chips like redruby); DH was up all night sorting out an internet spat around an organisation he volunteers for and only got one hour's sleep so he'll want an early night tonight. I learned long ago not to waste energy on internet arguments and 'personal politics' but he hasn't figured yet that it'll drive him crazy, so I'm leaving him to get on with it :) I said everyone needs a good whacking with the 'grow-up' stick, which didn't go down well ;)

Tomorrow I'm not working and in fact may not be back in work until next Tuesday, depending on how it goes with HR. Mum's staying from Friday night to Sunday night, so I'll spend some time tomorrow meal-planning and shopping. Still have endless baskets of clean clothes to put away and the bedlinen needs to be changed.

Have a good day everyone :)

It's not that we cant let them play out it is just that we have to very carefully assess the risks and monitor their play. April was lost 400 m away from home and close to woodland at 5 years old. I let all my kids play out but they had very strict, age related limits that increased as their development progressed.
