Unknown Deposit in Account - Hfx say no error

Crazy in 2012 that you shouldn't be able to log into online banking and see an image of any cheque paid in or withdrawn from your account.

I'm sure it would save the banks a fortune in following up queries or reminding customers of transactions they have done and forgotten what it was for!

Hope you manage to track this mystery one down though!

Really? How many cheques do you write or receive these days? Given the several million pound price tag per bank you're talking about

Most likely HMRC as others have said, quite common these days apparantly!

Well they have asked their clearance for a copy (all the paperwork was sent off), so once they have the payee, issuer and a copy of the paying in paperwork all will be clear.

I can't see how it is HMRC - I am expecting about £21 and the value of this cheque is far greater. It's not a huge amount of money - but it is a sum I wouldn't be happy to loose or have delayed, so that's why I rather they acted quickly to return to the correct owner more timely.

Well they will be working as fast as they can to sort it. Even though cheque numbers are going down you are still talking millions a week. These will have to be searched through by hand to find the one required.
If it is a error and should be in someone elses account. Even though they will doing the same chasing as you. It wont make any diffrence.

All of the refund cheques I have see from Inland revenue have been sent to a home address.

Same here. Got a refund cheque for £37 and my gf got one for £1193. Jealous and a bit !!!!ed. Might just write to HMRC about this discrimination :mad:

If you fill in your bank details on your reclaim form, HMRC will send the refund cheque directly to your bank

Saves you making a special trip to deposit it, gets the money in the bank sooner.

I thought if you did that they just sent the money by Bacs Direct Credit?
Or at least that's how they paid me.

I did ask for a cheque (but there was a section for bank details, and I can't say 100% I didn't complete it), just genuinely can't remember.

At this point in time I am 95% certain there has been an error - hence why I flagged early so they can resolve.
