Postman trying to open the door

As it's a redelivery, he's probably a wee bit annoyed that you didn't answer quick enough. And probably thought you weren't in again, so tried the door to test it. Posties are under tremendous time restraints. Especially when the new working practices have started. Not saying it's right btw, but I can probably understand him trying it.
Nothing worse as a postie than getting the same parcel out to redeliver every 2nd day because someone's called up to get it redelivered and they still aren't home. Took same parcel out 7 times once, where the recipient kept ordering redeliveries. Thankfully our understanding manager put a stop on it after this and instructed her that she would either have to collect it or get it taken to PO.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
so its one of those flats with a door at the bottom
TBH,many folks are happy for the postie to open the door and chuck the packet in
Not something I would do though0 -
I thought the postman always rings twice?.......:cool:0

The only front doors I have ever seen with a door handle, have a porch. I really don't see the problem. I wish we had one so we never missed parcels.0

I hope our postman never does this. The dogs would be on him like a shot!
We had a spate of wrongly delivered mail years ago and after having a go at the incompetent postie we caught her trying to retrieve yet another wrongly delivered envelope by opening the door!!! Needless to say she'd obviously thought the risk of being caught entering was outweighed by the embarrassment of yet another mess up. Not much chance of it happening now with a dog.0 -
I would have been mortified! Especially if I had forgotten to lock the door and had just come out of the bath or something, postman stood in middle of hall! Oh my0

Reminds me of waiting in all day for the fire brigade. My mate who was staying with me for a few days, decided to go and have a bath, and which point the FB decided to arrive.
Alas, the noise they made going up the stairs made her toddler daughter open the bathroom door to see what was going on....just passing through.... Nothing to see....0 -

Really?! I have a normal UPVC door (with a handle) that opens straight into my hallway (no porch, nor any hint of a porch). I thought it was pretty normal!
I would not be happy about my postman doing this at all. However, they would be quite unwise/brave to try as my dogs are very vocal when the postie comes to the door. I would be LIVID if the postman opened my front door and this allowed one of my dogs to escape. I keep the front door locked at all times to avoid the risk of such things happening. I'm really not keen on the possibility of the postman seeing me in a towel either!
Surely trying the handle is a strange thing to do; if the occupier is out, the door would (should) be locked so trying the handle would be pointless. If the occupier is in, give them a chance to get to the door and knock very loudly if necessary. Maybe shout through the letterbox if no repsonse?! If the occupier is in, why would they need/want to open the door? It would scare the life out of me!0
