A capital T looks like a J looks like other letters too, so working out names is a bit of a nightmare, particularly when old and damaged paper. My guess is that this is why so little has been digitised. Having said that, this whole project would not have been possible 10, possibly even 5 years ago. The amount of archive digitising that is going on all over Britain is amazing.
Through the books of visitations, I've put together a full family tree of the main line and through local listory books I've managed to find a lot of sub-lines. Most of this has been done without leaving my house using out of copyright books that have been digitised, though I have put in an inter-library loan request for something outside of the county. It's so exciting riding the crest of a wave of new information possibilities yet involving data that is ancient. I love the implied paradox in that.
ETA: the genealogical puzzle I'm trying to help solved has been known about and being worked on for at least 30 years, though not by masses of people. Most of those doing the looking are in the USA (we're talking about a family that came over one one of the ships following the Mayflower). It's amazing what I've been able to find through library resources and makes me almost evangelical about promoting that aspect of my job. Hopefully this won't scare people off, I will come down off that cloud at some point! They will almost certainly have to appoint a genealogist at some point, but if I can do the grunt work that will really help.
Isn't there a church somewhere in the US which was digitising all our birth and death records for some sort of retrospective posthumous "conversion" of parishioners' dead ancestors?

!!!!!! - apparently First Capital Connect is broken bryond repair on the day I am supposed to be getting home promptly to be a scout helper (and the day I have forgotten my phone). Getting home is going to be an experience.I think....0

Oh, I didn't know any of this.

It probably winds me up more than most as I come into contact with Ancestry most days so feel I should have more choice. Have a read of this:

It does at least explain why so few older church records are on Ancestry (or on any other site for that matter)Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? ETA: Looks like NP may be over-represented in the learned at least a couple of words of Latin stakes. I shudder to think what PN thinks of that...
I never learnt a word of latin, forced learning of welsh in school until the age of 13/14. Taught by teachers who spoke welsh as their first language and seemed to consistently devote 80% of their teaching to the 10% of the class who spoke welsh at home. Put me off languages.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly. Thank goodness I turned down a market research opportunity that would have involved travelling in to central London about now on FCC.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Do any NP speak Latin?
I have a very rusty recollection of Latin Mass (which is beautiful when sung), a selection of Hymns and Carols and the odd bit from an O level class book involving the tale of a girl called Flavia .
Since that time the odd bit of law in latin has taken residence in my brain but otherwise that is the sum total.
If you do speak it what do you use it for?
Latin's definitely a POSH ALERT. One bloke annoyed me as he said "employers like to see Latin" - which really means "employers like people from posh schools".0 -

I never buy eggs I have an aversion to raw ones. I therefore tend to buy ready made pancakes and lemon juice or maple syrup. It's just not worth getting over something that makes me gag for once a year. I don't bake for the same reason, though fortunately I'm not really a cake person.
And here's a bunch of substitutes: http://tipnut.com/egg-substitutes/0 -

Apparently there's an old saying that all a person needs to get on in life is money, a good horse and Latin. Which are all things we've now discussed in this thread.
On another thread somebody said that even vegetarian food has been found to contain traces of uniquorn.:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
