Cannot decide wha to do....if anything. Cannot the world stop for a day ?
I'd like the world to stop for a week.
While I LOVE weekends (no work), the reality is that I doss on Saturdays, then by the time I think about going to get things I want/need from a supermarket it's closed due to the Sunday closing times... then on the Sunday it's only open when other bugg4hs are cluttering up the space, which is annoying.....0 -
Thanks peeps. Have never heard of window quilts before. They would be a great idea for my parents' cold sash windows as well as mine. Comment re door curtain much appreciated too lir. I may hang something temporary just to stop the draught. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It is snowing gently again here. Next door are going to take my children and sledges out again in a while.
My cold is worse again. I am remembering how hideous it used to be to be ill as a single parent of little ones, and feeling so very grateful they are older now. I asked DD to microwave some soup, make toast, and bring it to me in bed. Not only did she do all that to perfection, but she brought hot chocolate as well, because she thought I'd like it. :A
Gen, I am too brain dead to venture an opinion on your au pair, but it sounds awful for all concerned, so I am sending you sympathy. Have a dodgy hug: :grouphug:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

It was in 1976 so prolly not. It was a case juicy enough that the poor mother was doorstepped for 6 months.0 -

That makes me feel better apparantly 'everyone' in America or Canada or scandinavia has heard of them. Well....I am two of them and never had, and dh covers the other base and a shared one and he hadnot either.
Not that there is much call for heat retention in southern states!0 -

I think that lie is 'understandable' if legally she can. The cooking......it's perspective......plenty of people see cooking as heating up convenience food. She is learning that her ideas ( maybe those f her family) are nt everyone's. That is a tough and often painful learning curve. If her Mama, for example, dished up heated up food as 'supper' five days a week and expected thanks for cooking it can be quite a personal hurt to find out that other's don't feel the same.
She may well have used one set of pans and one cooker her entire life.
Totally agree with this. I would say most people don't learn to drive until they pass they test. Due to insurance prices many pass their tests then don't drive.....until they end up in a foreign country and find a job which has a car and driving requirement.
TBH DS2 drives the Aygo a lot and has had a licence for over a year now, but put him on the wrong side of the road in a car with an engine twice the size of anything he has driven and I imagine it would take him some time to get to the level where you would fell confident with letting him drive your children!
Same with cooking, my 2 could make you eggs or pasta or bolognaise but would struggle with much more.
The lying is inexcusable and, given she has sole charge of the children at times, means she has to go.
IMO the risk of the employment failing was higher by picking someone so young. A 22 year old may have at least gained some life skills.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. viva, once you've sorted out your insulation problems in the kitchen, if you still want to get more of a heat source in there, then just light a gas ring (if you have a gas hob) or turn the oven on and leave the door open (if your hob is electric). Works for me every time (although my kitchen is well insulated).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? If it makes you feel any better, I've probably spent close to two years in total in the US and worked for Midwestern companies for 20 years and I was clueless until you mentioned them. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Oh, one more thing. She swears blind that between 9 and midday she was with the kids, and the kids were off the computer and so was she.
How, in that case, was 2.5GB of data downloaded from the internet and 100MB sent back up the wire? The kids watch youtube videos, although not at that time supposedly, and they don't talk back to it.
Sigh.
So the kids never heard the door either? Seriously! Where was she? I would wonder if she had gone somewhere.
Phones don't ring then go to number unobtainable in the UK unless you lose signal suddenly. It is not something you can do from your phone like hanging up. Could she have wanted to go somewhere? and done so without your knowledge or permission. (Which is marginally better than leaving the kids home alone.)I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
