Nice people thread part 7 - a thread in its prime

Well the address doesn't half sound posh
Definately not posh now but 100 years ago yes.
I love the way the old seaside towns all have an Oxford St that is nothing like Oxford St London (and couldn't have been similar even 120 years ago. Oxford St Brighton is tiny, almost invisible as is the Margate Oxford St.
These people have done a beautiful job (they were on an old hotel inspector prog no longer available).
It's how I imagine LIR's place to be when finished.
We were down again on Saturday and there are so many posh people in town ...I mean proper posh (well ....much posher than us) but we met a guy whose entire building had been destroyed by tenants (comm and resi). Took a year to get it back. A tale for another day.0 -
....sounds nice
Olive farm though? Second job or new career?
Something I'd like to do in a few years (10?) as part of my retirement saving is take some derelict land in a decent location and turn it into an olive farm with nice house, pool etc. You can add a lot of value by buying derelict farmland in Aus and turning into a profitable farm. It is also my belief that Aus is going to be the breadbasket of Asia before too long.0 -

That's a good idea long term...is water an issue?
......what I like about this thread is the looking forwards on it..even of we don't ever actually do it.:)
Perfect topic for NYE.0 -
Dear NP
Have a very good 2013 - being well, being loved, have some fun and enough money to meet your needs in an MSE kind of way.
I have got so much from your company in 2012. Thank you ....and as it is NEW YEAR a :grouphug: dodgy hug (believe it or not this is the "threesome smiley")!
Spirit x0 -
Right, that's the end of jools. everyone enjoy yourself. and thank you for the company and the pleasure of knowing you.
You may not realise it but you lot have helped me more than you think.

Happy New year everyone!
Very piddled which is unusual for me but it is just the once a year....amazingly, found if I drink, I can dance, will probably regret that in the morning! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I loved the premise of ideocracy - rest of the movie after the first 5 minutes is not so good...
You can read the book it's ripping off here. CM Kornbluth's "The Marching Morons".
It's entertaining but it'll worry you.
Just been to a marvellous ceilidh. Of course as I dance worse than a one-legged robot with rickets nobody misses me after I've been up for a few dances.:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
ah well...it's OH's turn to choose our NYE celbrations and he chose to 'nest' in front of telly in the dry and warm, have a drink and not worry about talking to anyone, being merry and driving.
He's very happy right now. Ginger is too (nestled on his lap)
Last year it was my turn to choose and I dragged him up to Waterloo bridge to watch fireworks again. This year he couldn't face the crowds, the 3 hour hike home (as they close the tube due to overcrowding) as we kind of head towards London Bridge to pick up a tube @ 2am.
So going to watch them from the house (we have a panoraimic view over London BUT it's through the trees) so it's not the same as actually being under them.
Starting to hear people arrive to our hill to watch them....mmm..last time that happened was the opening of The Shard and everyone was expecting a laser display......wasn't really anything at all and the large crowds that gathered were all a bit disapointed.
We went to my parent's again...lots cheaper than going out apart from the taxi home!
Youngest was most unimpressed with New year, middle son was more in touch with it and James all out embraced it ( he is still out at the night club).
I have had far too much to drink, a whole bottle of Chardonnay and some champagne (ok most of the bottle of champagne) but as it is only once a year, I think I can get away with it.
My back had been a nightmare all day, with the drink inside me, I was able to surprise the boys (ok, completely freak youngest out) by dancing to Lionel Ritchie! We made it! Perfect topic for NYE.
One of the reasons to pick olives is that they are highly drought tolerant. They yield a lot less in drought conditions but the trees survive perfectly well.0 -
I spent hours trying to get back online to post again.... it wouldn't play ball.
I hope you lot have already been up for hours and have done stuff .... and not just laid in bed with your head under the covers!0
