I think I mentioned it 1-2 years ago that there was a house for sale that I'd seen that had an outside area, that you could sleep out in. Personally I'd not fancy it ... from a personal security perspective. The sale particulars gave it a very specific name, which I think was the Arab word for an outside gazebo style thing.

Ah, worry not Pastures, I'm married to a ninja;). Anyone breaking in here would be wondering why they chose this house, sleep out or no sleep out.

We've had a brilliant day today, got loads of work done, and somehow managed to get all of management into one place!

If YBM is still around, this is for him, as I promised him 2 months ago!

I remembered where it was.... so I got google maps up and found the road where it was, I looked at google streetview and googled to get a postcode, I looked through sold details, I googled the actual address ... and eventually I found it.

    Zula. That's what it was.

Interestingly, or not, it was bought at peak (2007) for £175k, it was on at £205k, then £200k .... and sold at £165k. I was 'intrigued' by it, but felt its location was a bit dodgy, being at the end of a side lane beside a shop that felt it needed lots of shutters for security :)

Overall location of the zula/house http://media.rightmove.co.uk/16k/15062/16645680/15062_braysrb1_IMG_04_0000.jpg

A very strange 37 photos of the property .... very strangely decorated. I think it was owned by the local councillor/MP bloke (or the wannabe from the other party).

Silvercar's earlier comment has sparked the thouight that maybe we don't need a housephone. We've all got mobiles. Nobody phones us on the landlines.

We've got fast internet - but it disappears from time to time, but I suppose that happens with all suppliers. It's like greased lightning when its working.

We've got cable TV but don't know what we're getting that's more than freeview.

    Got some thinking to do.
    Food for thought.

Anybody else here not using a landline?

We have a landline that is 'free' with our broadband. The handset broke over a year ago and we've done nothing about it despite it taking a 2 minute phone call to the unusually good iinet call centre to get a replacement.

Apart from at work I don't think I've used a landline at all in 2011 or 2012.

I may have mentioned it once or twice before, but I work in a library:o. One of the demographic trends that I've noticed is that pretty much everyone under the age of 30 has a mobile phone and some form of mobile broadband. "Landlines" are very much the preserve of the over 30s and the wealthy under 30s who have everything. If you were to ask an under 25 for their home phone number, they'd give you a mobile number. If you then ask what their landline number is, they'll look at you as though you are from Mars before asking what a landline is.

This is why I don't like saving in pensions. They can and do change the rules to your detriment. Was it Romania or somewhere that they nationalised all private pensions? given the demographics I would not rule out it happening here!

The Argentinians did the same thing too IIRC. They have also nationalized people's savings in the past.

The US made it illegal for her citizens to hold gold, the British Government forces you to 'invest' most of you pension in Gilts when you retire, many Governments (including the British one) have seized businesses and other assets with little or no compensation, the German Government destroyed the life savings of millions of East Germans upon reunification.

A pension is a good investment IMO just be aware that the rules can and do change. It's good to put your money into an asset that isn't used for means testing for example if something bad happens to you. As with any investment, put you money in despite the tax breaks not because of them.

James has been offered the part of Egeus in the school production of A Midsummer Night's dream...he is not sure whether he is going to take it though.

Pretty amazing though, up until September, he had absolutely no interest in doing drama, decided to take it up as a filler qualification so he could continue with his media BTEC and already being predicted a distinction in it. He has always been the behind camera type, excellent at scripts and story writing, directing and producing but never ever had an interest in acting at all.

    Congrats to James! :)

Omg I must try post a photo of the dog. People are so pathetic about their animals and I am, sadly, no exception

Yes please! I like pics of dogs. :)
Although, since I'm days behind, you may have posted some already that I'll come to in a little while.
Well, that's another week's income banked.... unless the firm go to the wall :)

I've been laid off from so very many firms over the year that each day as I drive home I think "That's another day banked"..... I seem to find the ones that are on their way under..... and I think I just did that again.... watch this space over the next 1-2 months I guess. :)

"Not boverd"" as they say. Been there before, got fistfuls of T shirts ..... know the score.

But now they have you making everything much more efficient, they won't go to the wall after all. :D

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I don't have a landline. There's one to this property, but that's not for me to use, that's the LL's.

It doesn't work like that. You're employed as they have a need - and you have skills. But then you've no time to use your skills and you're not allowed to spend a penny on necessary tools .... and then they heap loads more other work on you, preventing you from cracking on and doing the real job they want doing.

It's a bit like employing a fireman to put out the fire at your house .... then not letting them smash down the front door to get the hoses in because it's a nice one and the way they like it..... then they give you a watering can and point you at the water butt to use to put the fire out ... and then ask if you can mow the grass now you're here and it needs cutting a bit to get to the water butt.
