No TV

A friend of mine decided not use the TV anymore as it is a total waste of time and is going to do more activities instead, does the TV have to go and if not can it be used for games etc. Also will broadband be allowed for browsing the net but there will be no TV licensed :T

Yes, it's ok to keep the tv, use BB etc, you need a license to watch or record programs as they are being broadcast.

Expect hassle from the tv licensing m-afia, they don't believe that someone could possibly not want to watch tv.

If they call don't let them in and DON'T sign anything!

I think society's child has pretty much summed it up.

I would recommend disconnecting the TV from the aerial. And no sneaky watching of live TV on iPlayer, but watching old stuff is OK.

TV licensing have a whole variety of different threatening letters to send out, so you will get a different one every month. I'm not sure how long you have to wait to get the full set.

You can contact them to say you no longer need a license, if you wish. But you don't have to.

If they turn up on your doorstep, you can let them in if you wish. But you don't have to.

If they give you a form to sign, then DON'T SIGN IT.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Does he have to get rid of his broadband as well. What does mean by watching old stuff is OK.

15 minutes after first transmission is not deemed 'live'.
  • Not had a tv for 20 years, do things, why waste your life?

    TV licences are a JOKE!!!

I recently purchased a new TV and media system to watch netflix and iPlayer.

A few days ago I recieve a letter from TV Licencing saying that they were informed by asda that I bought new equipment.

    Funny thing being.

    a) I gave them a doofus name and address
    b) used my sisters credit card
    c) already told them I didnt need a TV Licence 3 months ago

Funny thing is I don't see how anyone can Justify spending 10 quid a month to watch the bbc. It's all crap!
