The great £50m train shambles: Victory for Branson as government admits stripping Virgin of West Coast route was WRONG because officials bungled their sumsEarly this morning, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin apologised profusely to Virgin and admitted his department had got its sums wrong.
He described the blunder as 'deeply regrettable and unacceptable' and admitted it will cost taxpayers at least £40million in refunds to rail companies. He said he was appalled by the 'flaws' and admitted: 'The fault of this lies wholly with the Department for Transport'. The news of the humiliating U-turn was sneaked out after midnight.

what evidence?
"because of mistakes by Department for Transport staff. Three civil servants have been suspended."0 -
Dont try and use reason and common sense with Laura. Shes a die hard red and has none. The Tories are 100% to blame regardless of the fact the people who made the mistakes are civil servants and would have made them regardless of who was in power. In fact, id put a small bet on the people who have been suspended were probably hired under Labours watch.what evidence?

I despair! We have this lot who seem weak and incompetent; and a choice of the others who are liars and manipulators. So depressing!0

As much as I would like to say Cameron unfortunately it is difficult now because the minister who was in charge of transport at the time of the decision has now moved. But if she was still there I imagine the outcome would be the same as now.0 -
