In many countries washing after using the loo is standard practice. We are the odd ones using paper.

I've just seen a Daily Mail article about this, saying it was on TLC yesterday - does anyone know what Sky channel that is, or when it might be repeated? I'm intrigued by it, even if I wouldn't go to those extremes!0

There was a bidet in the last house we rented. It makes you feel really clean. I'm determined that if we ever get our own house I'm going to have one installed.0 -

That was pretty much the norm for single people in bedsits etc in Britain before launderettes were introduced in the 1960s. They washed their 'smalls' and socks at the sink and sometimes shirts as well. Sheets and towels got sent out to a laundry or washerwoman. Everything else such as trousers and jackets got an occasional 'sponge and press' either at home or at the cleaner's. The idea that we all need automatic washing machines only started in the late 1970s or so.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
The thought of the man who only flushes his loo once a week is making me feel faint!

We have a bit on this forum for Fiscal Fasting and its really not that difficult. I often go 6-9 days without shopping and my purse stays firmly shut
:) Don't think I could do the washing of clothes in the shower though or the ...other bits to easily I'm afraid

As a bonus she is very unlikely to suffer from cystitis (and I fail to see why anyone would thing that washing their bits rather than squidging lavatorial remains about with some soft paper is unhygienic). I think that every new home should have a tap and/or showerhead located next to the lavatory to encourage cleanliness,
Handwashing, where ever it takes place, is proven to be better for clothes than machine washing.
This article does more to confirm my opinion of the Daily Mail than anything else.
PS Found this article on the subject of eco hygeine while looking for a pattern for a tote to be made from a broken umberella
