At least the OP left their details, I suspect plenty of people wouldn't.

I could not see the bike from my mirror will I be liable.
If you were parked behind a lorry and that backed into you, would you expect the lorry driver to be liable?

Apart from the, correct, "think of the children" comments, you say you crushed the front end of the bike? They don't have handbrakes and generally fall over and break the plastics when you bump them. Look forward to a whacking claim and be grateful the police didn't bother whistling round and breathalysing you.

Or two children. With a puppy. Like the one from the Andrex ad.

I'm just glad it wasn't me, getting back to my scooter and bending down to unlock it
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Surely everyone should have a quick glance behind the car before they get in and then check the rear view mirror, side mirrors and blind spots before reversing? Unless, of course, you fancy running the risk of accidentally running someone over, for the sake of saving literally 2-3 seconds of your time.

So your saying that half of the people do check?

Which ones are muppets? The ones that do check or the ones that dont?

If you have problem seeing behind you MPV get one of thoise prisms that attach to the rear window and allow you to see the back bumper and area behind it.

As others have said next time you may not be so lucky and it will be a person not a thing.
